Yousef Makki / Deborah Makki

Has anyone just watched “crime - are we tough enough?” On BBC one?

The criminal defence lawyer guy (sorry don’t know his name) has just interviewed Deborah Makki, mother of Yousef who was killed in a knife attack last year in a Manchester suburb.

I’ve just been bawling my eyes out. Her account of what happened - when the police turned up at her door - how she felt when she saw her son lying dead in the hospital (being told she wasn’t allowed to touch him). Then the trial - absolutely horrific. Apparently the accused and the victims families were all left to mingle together / walk in and out of the courtroom together etc. The accused was sniggering as they walked past and dancing in the corridors. Then the little bastard basically got off Scot free.
I knew of the case but details surrounding it were very vague (I guess on account of their ages). To hear about some of what happened from the mother and sister of Yousef today Is truly heartbreaking and shocking.
I still just don’t get how he got off with it.
Oh, and the reporter showed a video that the perpetrator has posted on his Facebook account of him rapping along to a song with lyrics glorifying stabbing along with him making stabbing motions with his hand - basically mocking what he did to Yousef. His mum and sister seemed she’ll-shocked (they agreed to watch it with the interviewer).
Why is he getting away with this? It just beggars belief.

I didn’t see the programme but I’ve followed Yousef Makki’s case and I agree, it’s just horrendous. Apparently the perpetrator was from a very wealthy family and they had a shit hot, very expensive lawyer. Awful that you can basically buy an acquittal.

I am so sad to hear about this news. I listened to Debbie Makki on the radio and could hear the heartbreak in her voice. Bless her soul.

I haven't seen the documentary, but I think the sentence is an absolute disgrace. It's sickening.

So sad to hear about Debbie. God bless her.

That is awful to read about Debbie. How tragic. The sentence in this case is an outrage.
