Hello. Ive posted this in AIBU as I thought there might be possibly more people there. Please, if you have any advice, it would be fantastic right now xx

Apologies if this is not the right forum but I'm currently supporting a friend who was assaulted by a man on Saturday evening. She's not getting much information from the police, of course we know they're busy, and the internet isn't being too much help this far.

Essentially this man has taken exception to my friend turning down his drunken advances and, after leaving a local pub, he's called her some obsenities before he struck her in the face after she argued back. The police were called and she gave her statement.

They told her (I was with her by this time) that they would keep her up-to-date but we really don't understand how these things progress.

This morning the police have said that the man has indicated with his solicitor that he will plead guilty at court to common assault (which is what they charged him with). They then said that he will be in court today. Is this right or this that a mistake? Doesn't she need to go? What if he changes his mind and says he didn't do it (unlikely we know as it was on CCTV but you never know).

We've tried looking online at court listings but nothing comes up. How do we know what she should be doing?

Any help would be massively appreciated. I didn't know where to go for advice and though someone here may work in law or unfortunately have experienced something similar.

Thank you so much for your tine everyone. xxx

If he's pleading guilty she doesn't need to do anything. Its a minor charge, he'll be sentenced and that's it.

If he changes his plea i would suspect there would then be a trial at a later date which she would summoned to attend.
