Should I report petrol station cashier?

I bought petrol today, went to pay, and handed over loyalty card. The cashier took it immediately (still talking to another member of staff) then asked what pump, and took payment on a credit card. Meanwhile the other guy has gone out to the forecourt...
...so far so good.
I didn't see him scan the loyalty card, but couldn't be bothered fussing about that, I just asked for the card back. He said I didn't give him a card, and "you need to leave now" (not in an aggressive way, just matter of fact...queue starting to form...he tries to beckon next person round me...).
I point to the card and say I can see it has my name on it, and want it back. He picks up another, different card (looked like a credit or debit card) from a little pile he has, and say its not mine.
We go through a couple more denials, before I pretty much shout, in a stern mum voice 'Give my card back, now!'.
Finally he hands over MY card, I say I will never use the garage again, and storm out.
It all seemed rather bizarre, once I had pointed out the card I don't know what good he thought could come of trying to hang on to it (a small part if me thinks it was a genuine mistake and he forgot he took it, but then he'd surely have looked at the card to check, when I asked, rather than flat out deny it was there and try to make me leave!).

Now, I know it was only a loyalty card, and I got it back, but I feel I should somehow be trying to prevent him continuing to do this (I don't know why he had the other cards, it may be innocent, but again, why fight so hard to keep mine?).

But there wasn't a crime, so should I be reporting this, and to whom?

I thought about leaving a review, but there is no obvious place to leave an online review for the garage.

Definitely contact the head office and let them know word for word what happened here.

I would like you, think "oh it was a mistake" EXCEPT for his "You need to leave now" which was not necessary at all from what you say.

It's like he tried to bamboozle you....confuse you and make you forget the card.

Yes, I'm quite pleasantly surprised that I stood my ground - I don't mind making a scene so much as I did when I was younger Wink!

Me either! And my cross mum voice is also sometimes put to good use! Grin It's a universally recognised tone isn't it!

Definitely report it. It's stealing. Yes it's only a loyalty card but could havemonetary value.

That sounds very suspicious. I’d report it to the manager. Make sure you include the time.
