Has anyone done this? I can’t afford to give up working full time so am planning on doing an MA on a part time basis. It’s with MMU who are flexible in terms of teaching times etc but am just a bit worried I won’t have enough time to actually do the work! Has anyone managed it? I could poss go down to 4 days at work

Yes I did it. I deferred a couple of years when my role was particularly demanding but otherwise it was fine.

I'm just starting my 2 year part time Masters at Cambridge soon...will let you know!

Jemimaaa · 26/06/2019 20:21

@Chocolateychocolate oh good luck!

I did this - it was one night a week for full school year, 3 hours per night, and the course lasted for 2 years. I loved it. Having to produce or edit every week (for a workshop) was really great.

I'm just finishing mine. It's hasn't been easy but it is possible.

Jemimaa ...thanks! I'm crapping myself! Grin

How did you both find the application process? I’m really keen on the writing for children pathway at MMU.....

TalentedMsRipley · 13/07/2019 16:04

King, the application process for Cambridge was v tough as you can imagine! Although I didn't have to find my original degree certificate; just transcript was fine .Grin

TalentedMsRipley · 13/07/2019 16:05

Cambridge had over 100 applicants and only 18 places. I don't know much about MMU; do they have a children's writing course, then? Good luck applying; will it be for next year now?

Thekingintheeast · 13/07/2019 16:19

Goodness 18 places for 100 applicants. You’ve done brilliantly!! Really well done, you must be so excited!

Yes MMU do different specialisms and children’s is one of them. I’m not totally convinced by this path as I keep thinking I’d be better doing a more general course. I teach upper KS2 and know both children’s literature and my intended market pretty well but I still can’t make up my mind!

I’ve done a couple of postgrads (teaching and also a specialist literacy/dyslexia one) but this is different and feels much more personal if that makes sense? I should be doing a Masters in Education but it’s just not calling me like this has been doing (for years!).

TalentedMsRipley · 13/07/2019 16:28

Go for it!! I've been talking myself out of it for years and years, and I'm also a teacher so done the similar post-grad route as you.

Thanks so much for the congratulations. Grin

So have done a similar route. Blush
