If I buy a typewriter, i'll definitely write my novel (and other delusions)

As a permanently stalled writer, i'm fighting off buying a pretty manual typewriter. Part of me just knows that my novel will spring into existence if I buy one. For the same reason I have any number of blank notebooks.
So, just a frivolous post to ask if anyone else devotes so much mental activity to not writing.

There's a website that shows you a new picture of a kitten every time you write 500 words. Grin

Colm Toibin says no one has ever written good fiction on a computer connected to the internet. Grin

Personally, I fall down research rabbit holes from which I emerge hours later with three period details I will probably edit out later...

I think I do a lot of daydreaming around the idea of being a writer/author. I daydream about owning a writing hut/small cottage near to water and spending hours writing and walking. I have thought about purchasing one of those antique typewriters just for the sake of nostalgia (I remember playing with one when I was about five years old and watching with fascination, how the black letters would appear on the paper.)

However, the reality is I have 3 dcs and manage to scrabble together an hour or two of writing a day. Because my time is so limited, I plough on with things and it helps me to focus I suppose more than I would otherwise. I know what you mean about owning lots of notebooks!

Oh yes. And I do a lot of 'if I have this computer / this desk / this time in evening the novel will happen really easily'. It doesn't. All that matters it butt in chair, hands on keyboard...

There was once a writer who did very well. I think his name was Charles Dickens. I am pretty sure he didn’t use a typewriter!
Also, isn’t there something about the brain connecting with the hand?
I used to write a lot and always found it easier to start by writing by hand.

I tried exactly the same thing, found a lovely little antique typewriter..cost me a small fortune. Whilst buying it thought I'd be the next Stephen King. It's still in the box and will probably go on eBay next month.

Same delusions here I'm afraid! I wasted £100 once on an obsolete old electronic word processor (step up from a typewriter I guess!) that I was certain would solve all of my writing woes. Like a pp said, the only thing that works is bum in chair and hands on keyboard.
