How do I get started?

I was talking to some friends at our book club about the whole "50 Shades" genre and my problems with it. Don't get me wrong I can enjoy that stuff but I just didn't think much of it is as good as it was made out to be. So a friend challenged me and so I set up a Wordpress blog (link below) to start writing myself. Its never going to make any money and will probably just provide entertainment for my girlfriends (at my expense!) but now I've started I'm having a crisis of confidence. I'd love feedback and any tips on how to get it all going and expand- or whether I should just pack up and forget it!

I should probably have linked straight to the story, so here goes...

Well probably not of interest to anyone but I'm persevering for now. Here's today's effort, "Champagne breakfast" amyberrybooks.wordpress.com/2019/04/03/champagne-breakfast/

Going to be really blunt. Brace yourself!

I didn't enjoy these.

Your writing has quite a number of grammatical errors 'laid on the bed' ( should be 'lay on the bed') and a number of non-sentences (verb missing.) There are also some typos where you write 'she' when you mean 'he' (unless she can kiss her own fanny!)

I'm not quite sure what you want to do with your blog? Okay they are sex scenes with all the gory details. But then?

Is this all you want to write- sex scenes?

It's not new, it's not original, it's a bit cringe-making in places, to be honest. The language is quite repetitive and the descriptions of scenes etc are fairly cliched.

No characterisation, no story, just fanny, dick, lips, suck, etc etc.

Where do you plan to go with this? Is it a novel or just a series of blogs about sex?

None taken, I asked for feedback so thank you.

Not really sure if I'm taking it anywhere. It is just a blog about sex so that's a fair criticism.

Also take the style points. Never claimed to be any good at it, but I do appreciate the comments. X

My honest feedback is if you want to write, perhaps go to a creative writing group, or learn online via some reputable courses?

I felt quite uncomfortable reading your blog because it was very descriptive- along the lines of porn- and sometimes sex scenes are better where less is more. You don't have to give every single detail - the reader's imagination often works better! There were some really clunky descriptive phrases which grated, like her 'cotton knickers' - cotton isn't a sexy fabric and 'cotton knickers' just takes all the heat out of the moment! Same for this enjoying the release of endorphins that his sensual touch was bringing- Who the heck thinks 'endorphins' when masturbating?.

The other thing is- a blog is supposed to be about you. What you have written is not about 'Amy' but about someone else- so it's not a blog. It's a short story.

Writing sex scenes is not everyone's cup of tea! Reading them isn't my cup of anything, but as a teacher of creative writing I consider it my challenge to provide useful constructive advice to my students regardless of what they've chosen to write about. I say well done Amy! because writing anything is difficult enough and having the courage to let other people read your work is a real act of bravery. Don't worry about your spelling and grammar. It doesn't matter at the beginning. Try and think of a good plot where the sex scenes make sense. Or else just try writing something else!!
