Publisher asking to see more

I sent three chapters of a children's book to a well regarded publishing company about four weeks ago. They have got back to say they sent it to a number of their readers and now want to see the test of the book.

How hopeful should I feel? Does this mean they're definitely interested or just that I'm on s very long list of possibles?

The rest of the book, not test.

Congratulations! It surely must mean that they're interested.

I didn't know that was how they did it. So they send the first 3 chapters out to readers to see their thoughts before asking for full? Do they then send the full to the same people?

Congratulations!

Did you send it straight to a publisher or an agent? Publishers don't usually accept fiction submissions directly (with some exceptions) Good luck though! You're definitely on the right track with this!

Any publisher asking to see more is very good news! Send it along and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck!

@MissBattleaxe I think some of the publishers of books for small children (like Going on a Bear Hunt) do ask you to send work to them directly. OP, what age group are you aiming for?

Witchend · 29/10/2018 16:04

Hollow it says chapters so must be at least small chapter books, not picture books.

HollowTalk · 29/10/2018 20:58

Yes of course, sorry, I didn't notice that!

Thanks for responses. The publishing company held an open night for pitches as part of a cultural event. After my pitch they said they were interested and asked me to send in three chapters. I did and they sent it to some of their readers.

I just don't want to get my hopes up too far if this is fairly standard. It's a book aimed at middle grade readers.

Even if nothing comes if it, it’s proof you’re good and you should keep going.

I think it's always a huge compliment if a publisher asks to see the full manuscript!

Asking for more is a really good sign. My recently submitted (adult) MS has had a few requests for the full MS, one agent has offered rep and I'm now waiting to hear back from the others before making a decision.

I think you should take it as a sign that you are very much on the right track.
