Go on this website and pick one www.victorians.co.uk/victorian-names

TressiliansStone · 27/10/2018 12:55

Arthur, Henry, Maurice, Peter.

Or a surname reused as a first name: Blake, Valerian, Dixon.

BlackWitchInChildWringing · 27/10/2018 12:56

I know a modern day one, so it would have to be:

Humphrey

Failing that:

Percival

HTH.

TressiliansStone · 27/10/2018 12:56

Which end of the century was your Victorian born? As a PP says, Horatio was popular for a while!

TressiliansStone · 27/10/2018 13:01

Have a riffle through ThePeerage – a genealogical site of aristocratic families.

Eg, here are the Wellesleys, family of the Duke of Wellington: thepeerage.com/i3947.htm#s56584

Thanks for all of your suggestions so far. He is a young man, born in the 1830's. I'm looking for a first name. Will definitely have a look through the Peerage Tress, thanks for that.

Use one of mine ;-) Frederick. Born 1831.

I think Albert would be a good 'safe' choice (as I cannot imagine a baby royal Prince Albert any more)

Leopold, Alfred and Arthur were all princes then, but not current royal names.

If he is going be Lord Firstname, does that mean he is younger son of a duke? Because if so, it's less likely he'd have mother's surname as first name (that would go to eldest)

I'm tempted to suggest the timeless (occasionally but not currently royal) names such as John, Richard, Stephen. But the Victorians were also innovators and fond of unusual/resurrected names, so I'll throw in: Warwick, Sibery, Winter, Bedivere, Cedric, Hadrian, Kenelm, Ellery, Neville (was only just transitioning from surname in late Victorian times)

Twisique · 27/10/2018 14:48

Icabod
