My story in one sentence:-

A women's fiction novel about a woman bullied by her jealous, narcissistic female boss, who will do whatever it takes to see her fail.

Does this sound remotely interesting to you? Would you read this?

OP posts:
HollowTalk · 20/08/2018 21:25

I would read that!

GrumpyOldMare · 20/08/2018 21:30

Not my cup of tea,sorry.

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 20/08/2018 21:32

I would but I think it’s a bit of an old stereotype. I’d think about playing around with the genders and seeing what happened.

Just don’t have her rescued by an older man!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/08/2018 21:33

It makes me think of Working Girl.

BlueJava · 20/08/2018 21:34

No sorry, I wouldn't. Sounds a bit "bashing" and I prefer escapism.

HollowTalk · 20/08/2018 21:34

I think you need to think what you'd have on the back of the book. Are you going to tell the reader immediately that this is happening?

PurpleDaisies · 20/08/2018 21:37

That’s not really a summary of the story. That’s something that happens in it.

I don’t know if I’d read it or not.

dizzydaisies · 20/08/2018 22:01

Why does it need to be labelled "women's fiction"?
It's a pet hate of mine - you'd never hear John Grisham saying he was releasing a men's fiction!

Have to agree with others though, it all sounds a bit clichéd and catering to stereotypes.

ClashCityRocker · 20/08/2018 22:04

On the basis of what you've said (as after all, that's all we've got to go on) probably not.

It's a bit of a cliché and I'm always suspicious of jealousy as a motivating factor unless the characters are particularly close (immediate family, partners etc).

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 20/08/2018 22:08

Oh yes! Set it in a family business. I’d be more likely to read that.

HollowTalk · 20/08/2018 22:41

@dizzydaisies, unfortunately, "women's fiction" is a category - there's no point saying it shouldn't be. It is!

dizzydaisies · 21/08/2018 08:38

Yes, sorry @Hollowtalk, I should have said in my post, I'm not directing that at the OP - it's just a general why, why, why!!

spottybetty · 23/08/2018 19:45

And what happens? How does the main character prevail?

DorothyGarrod · 23/08/2018 19:48

I wouldn’t, sorry. Sounds too negative to me and pitching women against each other. I would expect it to be full of cliche which wouldn’t appeal.

DickensianHysteric · 23/08/2018 22:48

I wouldn't read that either, sorry OP. It sounds far too negative.

aperolspritzplease · 23/08/2018 22:55

Not for me without a bit more to go on.

mzterry · 09/09/2018 05:07

I wouldn't read it, but that's because there's no mention of drugs, murder, car chases or big bombs. I despise 'women's fiction' with a passion. It's usually boring as, and lame-oh wimin's shizzle: will Jayne get her fanny filled by roger? will she get period cramps? will she be wearing the prada dress or the bridget jones big pants?

give the boss a crack habit, or give the MC a massive gun, I might be interested...

worknamechanged · 10/09/2018 20:28

No, because it’s neither relatable for me or different enough from anything which is relatable IYSWIM
