Anyone writing for mills and boon?

I used to read a lot of them as a teenager, a while ago now admittedly but always thought it could be fun to write one myself. I could never be a highbrow writer but I feel like a genre like that would be doable - and potentially lucrative, maybe.

Does anyone have any experience with this and/ or know how much they pay? Any tips? Thanks very much.

I'm just trying to get into this market as they take unsolicited manuscripts. I read a lot of them and I have just submitted a first chapter and synopsis to the Prima competition. I don't think the money is very good but because they are only 50,000-55,000 words it's possible to produce more than one a year which must help. I know two authors who write for them, one has done 75-ish and the other is almost at a 100 books for them.

They have lots of tips on their website for aspiring authors and are very helpful.

The advances are small, and the publisher is keen to buy a writer as a brand, rather than an individual book, so basically you have to crank them out in order to get name recognition and royalties. I'd say two a year at an absolute minimum, probably three, and it could take a few years to start making a living. You have to be pretty disciplined.

Thanks! I was thinking that I could possibly aim to write a chapter every week or every two weeks. I know the money isn't huge but it would be a good extra income source if I do get published and I definitely aim for two a year.

Any idea about specifically what they pay?
