Cost of divorce in Ireland

My husband has moved from bedroom two years ago and has now decided to divide house in two . He has put walls up and done up one side of the house for himself. I am 64 years of age , we should be 40 years married this year and I can’t understand WHY he has done this to me now .

He told me he feels unappreciated disrespected and told councillor he has fallen out of love with me .

This has been going on for two years but it is only in the last month he has officially moved to his side .

He pays all the bills as he keeps reminding me as I am on minimum wage 380 a week . He refuses to allow me to write a cheque in the past two years .

i have been to three lawyers but they keep telling me that only way I can get financial disclosure is by divorcing him . We have a certain amount in solidarity Bonds so I can’t get free legal aid .

Divorce is so expensive one person quoted me 30,000 each and another 20,000 looking for 2,500 now and 2,500 per month . Nobody can afford to pay that

My mental health is really suffering I can no longer feel my house is my home .

OP I posted on your other thread. You need to contact Women's Aid, they'll help you. You can get divorced for less money if you and your husband can agree on things outside of court, but if he's point blank refusing to cooperate with you and controlling finances it sounds abusive and you need help.

Legal aid is NOT free in Ireland. I have no idea why people refer to it as free legal aid as its not free for family court situations it is a reduced cost so still can cost thousands but still cheaper than a private solicitor if you are eligible.
That said it is usually a judicial separation that is the higher cost and if you do not have a reason to have this then you can go for the cheaper although lengthier option of filing for a divorce itself. If you are both in agreement on this that is the best option however if he is splitting the house in two etc and there are kids involved it could be a very long drawn out process if you do not have an agreement in place as in who gets the house, kids and all that kind of stuff. It can cost anywhere from 5-35k but this does boil down to how much you both agree on yourselves as the bigger cost is the going back and forth with solicitors letters.

As you are on minimum wage I definitely think you should at least try to obtain a legal aid cert which will give you access at least to begin with to a legal aid solicitor and they may be able to give you the best options and advices there.
Nothing in Ireland is easy when it comes to divorce courts unfortunately and as we have a no fault divorce law here you can't even divorce someone on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour which clearly he is being unreasonable splitting a flipping house in half. Odd man.
