Hi, I'm visiting Limerick for a weekend with teenage DS. Please can you share recommendations of things to do, nice places to eat/pick up snacks, shopping, hang out etc? And anywhere to avoid? We'll have Saturday afternoon and most of Sunday free. TIA!

The Hunt Museum. Not too big but quite interesting stuff there.

King John's Castle. Massive and stunning location on the Shannon. Might be more his type of stuff?

Shopping malls , Arthur's Quay the most central probably. Grand spot Limerick I'm overdue a visit.

Bump for anyone else - especially food recommendations.

The Locke pub. Very good food. Where's all the Treaty City heads?

That's all I can remember now , being a Corkonian myself.

We tend to avoid the city centre these days.

My teenage son is a particular fan of Texas Steak Out big variety on menu so should suit you both. Other popular spots that teens seem to like are Coqbull or Locke burger.

The Curragower Bar & Restaurant is also a popular spot in Limerick.

The Buttery does a great brunch.

It must have been at least 15 years ago that I went, but I still reminisce about the profiteroles in Freddy's Bistro (now called Freddy's Restaurant, says Google).

Limerick city centre isn't great for shopping, but you could get a taxi or bus to The Crescent shopping centre. It's only about two miles from the city centre. If it isn't wet you can cross the Shannon and then walk along the river past the Treaty Stone and come out at King John's castle.
It can be a rough city at night. You'd be fine in the city centre but would be safer getting a taxi back to your accommodation if you're out at night.
