Hi,

We're going to a wedding in Co. Down next year and thinking of spending a few days on the west coast afterwards. Flying in and out of Dublin. DD will be 2. Any suggestions on where to go?

I'm from NI but moved away years ago. I've been to Donegal lots and also been down the east coast but never been to the west coast. Always wanted to go and this seems like a good opportunity!

Thanks.

Mayo is beautiful but seems to have a lot of midges. I've never been bothered by them in West Cork round to Clare. Clare is great for trad music.
West Cork if fabulous but a bit of a trek to get back to Dublin airport.

We visited County Mayo lately, the town of Westport is lovely, and we visited Clare Island from there, also stayed briefly on Inishbofin which is beautiful & comparable to the Scillies. Lots of Irish families visit with their children of all ages. Children are welcome everywhere.

oh yes, midges. Get some Smidge at the airport.

Honestly you can’t go wrong wherever you pick in West Coast. We have a 2 year old and a 3 year old and have had great experiences in Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway and Mayo with them over last couple years. Always find loads to do. From boat trips to an Island, aquariums, pet farms, castles etc. sheep in the middle of the road is a big hit with small ones. Even if weather isn’t particularly warm mine love exploring on a beach. I would be hard pushed to pick a favourite to be honest. We frequently do a few days away here and there. Honestly never been disappointed in any location we have picked.
if you go to Clare. Ferry from Doolin to Inisheer is a great day trip. Would recommend getting horse and cart tour. The guys that do it are great craic.
Toddlers are great travel buddies as they are just little busy bodies who find fun in everything.

Sligo is really lovely and closer to Northern Ireland. Also a shorter journey to Dublin.
