Do feeders schools always get a place?

Hi,

My daughter is going into 6th class in September and our school is a feeder school for Newpark and St Andrew's College. I note there are around 10 feeder schools.

In the admissions criteria, Protestant, Siblings, Andrew's Junior School etc get priority; feeder schools are 4/5th down the list. Thing is, we are not Protestant, so relying on the feeder school criteria to get a place.

Question is, are feeder schools likely to secure a place? Does anyone know someone who DIDN'T get a place, despite being a feeder?

Should not be called feeder schools any longer as the criteria has changed over the years and they have removed lists. All will be a lottery with the aforementioned being given places first and then everyone else goes into a lottery for the remaining places. There really is not much way to judge unless you know the schools and how popular they are and I know neither but people seem to ignore the lottery aspect and cite feeder until the time of enrollment comes for some reason. Have no idea how many people I have argued with about it over the years.

What exactly are the admissions criteria in the Sept 2025 admissions policy in order, I'd assume sibling comes before Protestant? Maybe not
How many places are there? I didn't actually think feeder schools were allowable anymore, but if they are with ten feeder schools and your child being at the end of the feeder pupils with the other non-protestants after siblings, probably teachers children etc I imagine lots don't get a place tbh

Keep an eye on their admissions statement which they declare in October when you are applying. It outlines how far down the categories (below is Newparks) they got.

Last year their admission offers got down to category 7 of the categories below. So you can work out what category your daughter is in. I know someone that got offered a place this year they were in category 3.

  1. Children who are siblings of children who attend the school currently or children who
are siblings of children who graduated from the school within the last three years.
  1. Children of permanent staff members of Newpark Comprehensive School (two years of service required).
  2. Children of a Protestant denomination, as outlined in Appendix 1, and who attend one
of the schools listed in Appendix 2 or Appendix 3

Sorry all the category numbers didn't post right above, you can see it properly on Newparks admission policy.
I don't know anything about St Andrews. I think it's a fee paying school so wouldn't have to follow the state admission policies

The admissions policy has changed since my dc were there but I know that applications to Newpark have increased a lot since the new building. If you are in a lottery for a place there will be many others along with you.

There are a lot of new ET secondary schools around the area now which have a very similar ethos to newpark so I would consider those just in case.
