Hi. Looking for some advice on what the young wans are wearing for TY Balls. The dress code is ‘long appropriate dresses’. Are we talking full on debs dress here?

My DD has one coming up in May. She’s autistic, a tomboy and is uninterested in fashion. Having said that she also doesn’t want to get it wrong and look out of place.

She’d normally be too anxious to attend things like this so I really want to help her choose something appropriate.

Based on DS one. It was a mixture of full length dresses and shorter ones. But all very debs like.
Asked DS girlfriend and she got hers on Shein. As did her friend. Shoes and bag from Penneys.

Thanks ! Nice to know there was a mixture of styles as I’m not sure she’d love a full length dress. But it sounds like people are fairly glammed up.

My dd1 went last year, it was a complete mix of outfits. My DD wore a nice party dress others had longer debs type dresses others short very disco/ club dresses. None of the blokes wore suits.

I'm a teacher. My students wear cheap debs dresses.

DD and her friends all got dresses from Quiz. And all the boys here wore suits, as did a handful of girls.
If it's a Debs Ireland ball, it's a long night. DD says they were all barefoot by 10pm (so flat shoes or bring flip flops!) And the no drink rules were very strict, so they were all dead on their feet by the time the buses came at 1.30am.

Ds just had his and we hosted 'prinks' at our house. Girls all were in full length gowns, mostly fitted satiny types. They looked very classy, miles away from the cheap body con style they wore to discos. The dresses looked expensive to me, admittedly i know little about fashion but either they are very good at putting a cheap outfit together, or they had paid a lot of money. Its a fairly affluent area so not surprising. They mostly had their hair done, either up dos or long and wavy/loose curls. No one brought a coat, I understand this but literally no one had a shawl, bare shoulders all the way. It was a cold night too!

I'm glad your DD is going. They had a great night and looked so gorgeous all dressed up. I felt very proud of DS that night.

Thanks all, for the advice. We’ve got her a long satin-ish dress from TK maxx. Not body con but hopefully appropriate and certainly more dressed up than she’s ever been. She’s happy in it, which is the main thing! She’s not a make-up wearer so we’re going to try a bit of lip gloss and blush tonight to see if she likes it !

sounds perfect hope she enjoys it. My dd is autistic too and did have a great time but wore hearing loops because the venue was very noisy.

That’s a great idea about hearing loops - thanks! I’d really like this to go well for her. Although I can see myself sitting in the car park for the night with a good book in case she decides she’s leaving.
