TW Why limit abuse enquiry to religious schools

This isnt goady and please dont flame me but i'm really curious why the abuse probe in schools is limited to only religious schools. Honestly I'm not being goady and don't disagree but I think it fails to recognise all those now adults (including myself) who were abused at the hands of lay teachers in state run schools. They will never be acknowledged and seeing how the state has challenged all the cases brought already (ironic that they accuse religious orders of doing the same) and dragged them out for years no one would bother.
I also think it gives the impression that abuse in schools was only in the past and in religious run schools by nuns and priests which leaves current and future generations vulnerable. For example this is current day Ireland https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/families-seeking-probe-into-allegations-children-were-abused-at-primary-school-1581567.html

The "State" never seems to do any wrong!

The allegations made by a now former staff member include that the children in the school's special autism unit were pulled and dragged "countless times" by two other staff members.

Are they only investigating boys? I've read horrific statistics on abused boys but can't find the information on girls.

Because most schools run by orders are single sex? does seem to be a male issue - the sexual abuse of children seems to be mainly done by men.

Schools run by the Sisters of Mercy were on the list, though it didn't reveal the names of the schools which I thought was strange. I wonder why the names of those schools weren't revealed? I am guessing that they are cases awaiting trial?

I see. All the religious schools were single sex and the few girls schools had no access to priests. It was different at the Convent I went to, we had a priest associated with the school.

So did we. A convent. One that came to train us in camoige and was known for trying to feel up girls. I do remember a nun stalking him around the field though at times. I mentioned it to my dad in the car afterwards once and he looked alarmed and told me to keep away from him but nobody seemed to complain about him.

I have no idea why that sort of stuff isn't included. Just the tip of an ice berg they have there.

We were abused by the nuns but not sexually. The priest used to get us to sit on his knee during confession.

I'm assuming that they're investigating girls schools but we just haven't heard the result.

I 100% think that as a country the way men and women ill treated each other and the children of those generations should be acknowledged. It was based on having power "I can so I will". But until we acknowledge it was across the board and not just one occupation or religion and not just in the past then it does continue today and will continue into the future. What was done to kids in the past is being done to kids in schools and homes today but sadly our focus is on one religion in the past as a diversion so nothing improves.
Anyhow. I wish you all well and hope for better.
