Anyone know much about this?

I'm trying to find information on the basic concept of the plan, however I can't find much on what is actually involved!

I have seen some great success but I'm not up for fad like weight loss programmes so I'd love to know more before I commit.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I finished the last programme of bodyslims before the summer. It's a 10 week pre-recorded programme that involved being in a calorie deficit and walking up to an hour each day for the duration of the programme.

I was on 1400 kcals based on my start weight and it can go as low at 1200 kcals.

He doesn't give you a diet plan, it's up to you how you choose to use your calories.

His programme consists of weekly 2 hour seminars about weight loss to motivate you to stay on track, he talk alot about different scenarios, his own personal journey with addiction is mentioned alot.

You also listen to a meditation each night that it's meant to help you as it's a form of hypnosis. A lot of people describe it as he gets into your head. Unfortunately he didn't get into my head.

He then does a daily check in and nightly check in to congratulations you for staying in plan today and taking time for yourself.

I personally didn't enjoy the programme, i found it really difficult listening to his voice .I knew after the second week i was going to struggle, its very time consuming with the daily check in, weekly seminars, tracking calories and then each night listening to the meditation to go to sleep. I know a lot of people who has success with it. I did lose 1.5 stone in the 10 weeks but it was more I didn't want to waste the money, you are given an app but I used my fitness pal and I tracked 1400 kcals and walked an hour a day by doing this, it has giving me good habits as I continue to walk daily. I wouldn't do it again, I've know a few people who have signed up the second time and found it harder to stay on track with the programme.

Don't let me discourage you, that's just my own experience.

I hope that helps with some information.

That is super helpful thank you so much!

You know, it's awful to say it, but I've seen the ads with him talking and I'm like oh no, I can't see me gelling with this.

But then I saw a few people I know (vaguely) lose a lot hence my enquiring.

I guess if I could just implement the 1400cals and 1hr walking that would make a huge difference. I have a young baby so I already know the other commitments will be difficult! Thank you

I also forgot to mention- the only form of exercise you can do for the duration of the programme is walk, if you are use to going to the gym, running or other forms of exercise you are not allowed to resume it for the duration of the programme. The only exercise that is recommended is walking daily for 1 hour. The alternative to walking is swimming if you have a health condition if I remember correctly.

You also have to weight yourself weekly at home and upload it to their app, bodyslims starts on a Wednesday, that's your weigh in day, aswell as your 2 hour webiner weekly.

I found the whole programme very time consuming. I didn't enjoy it. I did lose weight as I said in my previous message, but I don't know if that was my determination to not waste the money as it's expensive at 250 euro. I have managed to keep 1 stone off me with the walking, I was away on holiday and I relaxed my calories to live a little. I also found the walking one hour a day difficult to start as it has to be an hour consecutive- you can't break it up, you know the weather in Ireland. You have to commit to walking 7 days a week regardless of the weather.

peepsypops · 23/08/2024 20:03

Thanks so much that's brilliant. I guess I could walk on the treadmill is that ok? Especially coming in to the winter jeepers it would be tough going out

The treadmill may be okay, I don't recall any mention, he recommended being outdoors mostly to get with the elements for your mental health. I struggled with it at the beginning,as it has to be one hour max! so I had to time my walk and I felt I was clock watching but eventually I got a route that worked. Each walk is building up to the last challenge which is a 10k walk.

Oh I forget to mention, he does weekly challenges, one week is no bread. One week is no alcohol, no meat, I feel this is to boost the weight loss, I didn't take part in these challenge as I feel its not sustainable. I want a balance diet.

Iamsplendid · 23/08/2024 21:04

I did it last year and I honestly found it great. I lost 24lbs in the 10 weeks and I have kept it off. It was the only diet I ever stuck with.
It's simple but not easy. There are 3 elements. The diet, the walk and the seminars.

The diet. For me this was 1200 calories. Honestly, I didn't think I could stick with it but I did. Knowing what to eat to keep me not feeling hungry plus knowing that there was an end date are what helped.

The walk. I really had to commit to the walk. It wasn't something I was really into but I started to love it. The motto is that there is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothes. After trial and error I learned to keep waterproofs in the car! I think that a treadmill is allowed too though I am not 100% sure.
Thirdly, the seminar. This was weekly but it stays up for a few days so I found it manageable. He also does a morning and evening talk every day except Wednesday. These are only for a couple of minutes but the regular checking in kept me focused. There are other elements such as the sway stretching and the night meditation which are optional. I didn't do these every day but I found them quite enjoyable when I did them.
Ger is one of those people who can be marmite but I found him to be knowledgeable about what he was doing. If you commit to the programme you will lose weight.

Bodyslims25 · 23/08/2024 21:51

I did it and got to my goal weight and I have kept it off. It definitely helped my mindset around dieting and losing weight.

I don't live in Ireland anymore, but a friend of mine suggested it to me and sent me a link, I wasn't sold on it until I saw a testimonial from someone I knew from years back and she looked absolutely amazing, so I knew it wasn't 'fake' testimonials, all the testimonials are absolutely genuine and inspirational, it turned out I knew several people who are on his testimonial feed. I siigned up along with my friend, although I really didn't know too much about it,

i got to my goal weight by week 9, my calorie allowance was 1200, my friend who was exactly the same weight as me with the same calorie allowance, didn't manage it at all.

Would i recommend it ? yes, with a caveat that Gerard's 'seminars' are not for everyone, personally I could not stand his mysoginistic attitude , I hated the two hour 'seminars', (4 hours plus the first week 😫) There was probably max 30 mins of worthwhile content in those seminars, so i would listen to it on 2x speed and then stop when it came to something I thought was important I felt he treated his audience as being the 'oul Irish mammy' trope. He is the kind of person I would avoid like the plague if I happened to find myself in his orbit, however some people love him .

But ... it works !!!!!!!,

its a finite 10 week programme, no exercise, just a 1 hour walk each day, you weigh your food, you track your calorie intake per meal, you track your walks, you weigh yourself weekly and report it. There is a Facebook page which i found really helpful and encouraging through the 10 weeks, although that can get a bit bizarre at times, with their divine devotion to all things Bodyslims and Gerard, i.e. don't make any criticism of the programme and do not say anything that might be viewed as a negative about Gerard 😀

Check out Carla, she is an ambassador for Bodyslims and also does a weekly video during the programme. about 20 mins. I found her input much more relatable and inspiring than some of the stuff Ger spews.

https://www.instagram.com/halfofcarla/?hl=en

I forgot to mention, you do get a very limited recipe 'book' and Carla issues a weekly recipe. They were all really tasty and easy. I still make some of them now, even though I am not on the programme anymore.

.

@sandtrix I find much information.

55YrOldMum · 12/03/2025 09:05

I'm inclined to agree with the criticism of this program Bodyslims. It's expensive and for €250 you don't even get a proper calorie calculator. That's inexcusable in my opinion. You pay that amount of money only to have to use other tools to calculate calories. Everyone i knew was assigned 1400 calories , it's not personalised . I used an online tdee calculator and am successfully loosing 2-3lbs a week on 1700 calories. I couldn't listen to the guy Gerard , the 1st week over 3 hours of waffle with very patronising comments like he was talking down to some "auld mammy" . There was snippets of useful information but lost in the waffle. Nothing seemed researched or scientific. I see from posts here he doesn't "allow" other forms of exercise. That's BS some folks love cycling or weights , zumba or irish dancing. Do exercise that brings you joy- you're far more likely to keep it up. So in essence I gave up half way through the wnd seminar, well gave up Bodyslims. I have continued in calories deficit, some walking and weights in gym and lost 20.5 lbs in the past 6 weeks
I do not recommend

Bodyslims25 · 12/03/2025 22:27

Gerard has retired and Carla is taking over, hopefully she will modernise it a bit.

I am back to square one on the weight, exactly where I was when I started the programme in Jan 2024, kept it off until October and then Christmas did me in. Have been trying to do it myself but just don't seem to have the motivation to stick with it.

I may sign up with Carla and give it another shot coming into the summer.

Boobyslims · 12/03/2025 22:41

I'm on it now and I love it!

I've lost over a 18lbs and I'm on a 1,200 calorie diet. I find his unwavering no nonsense no excuses chat really good.

I can't click with Carla...Regardless, it's all in the head. He's right there. Bad habits got us where we are and we need to get into why we have these bad habits, put ourselves first and rebuild.

Respectfully, I do not agree with a previous poster. The seminars are filled with thought provoking logic.

Again, for me it's his unapologetic approach of calling a spade a spade.

We all know what we should eat, we can't blame our weight loss on 'nobody told me this stuff was bad for me', it's us that feeds ourselves, it's us that can fix ourselves.

V refreshing to hear someone speak so candidly.

If you're thinking of it, sign up for updates. Listen to what is available and see if it resonates. I'd never heard of it til I stumbled onto it. Something made sense - it was about the energy I was spending always thinking and failing about being overweight. The people in the testimonials sounded so free of that.
