On Friday 7th of June, a Saturday.

Local and European.

Tough choices ahead, I fear.

Good god, nooooo

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/03/2024 16:31

I know. I don't think there's going to be anyone I can vote for so I'll just be along for the craic and suggestions about how to spoil votes creatively.

@StephanieSuperpowers

Is that rogue Saturday that slipped in there?

Will Leo embrace his inner mammy to ensure his party vote?

Will any FG, FF or GP date to canvass

Will any party come to think it after having their arses handed to them?

Some many questions 🤔🤔🤔

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/03/2024 16:41

Apparently not! Seemingly Leo is conscious of not forcing people to take a day off work.

What I wonder is what will happen to Clare Daly and Mick Wallace?

OP posts:
StephanieSuperpowers · 14/03/2024 16:42

Ah, I see what you mean now! No, Friday isn't a Saturday - although it should be.

It is a Friday - god I'm some fool.

I think Independents will be big winners in these elections.
I don’t think many SF, FF, FG, Greens etc will dare knock on doors. They know people are furious.

I actually don't think they fully understand that.

I am expecting to find a lot more leaflets than I'd like shoved in my letterbox.

Climate crisis misis, even the GP will get in on the game.

The norm around here is to send the helpers to suss out the vibes before anyone turns up in person

honeyrider · 15/03/2024 00:54

I had a local SF candidate round canvassing about a week before the referendum. I'm looking forward to any canvasser brave enough to knock on my door. Certain parties will get their arses handed to them.

StephanieSuperpowers · 15/03/2024 10:48

Well since all the main parties have demonstrated that they're totally out of step with upwards of 70% of the electorate, it's going to be interesting.

But they believe they are, the electorate are being infiltrated by the far right.

No general election then???

The general election will either be in the autumn or next spring. It has to take place by next spring at the latest.

DublinFemale · 15/03/2024 13:45

@honeyrider

I know it needs to be within 5 years of first Dail sitting after the last election.

What I cannot figure out is it the first Dail sitting where the government was declared or is it the first sitting where they played silly beggars of nominating and no one had a majority

So is it February or June?

I also think there is something about 5 months prior to date of previous election, but again not sure if it is election or government formation.

If it is election it can happen anytime from October on, if government formation it's from January on.

SparkyBlue · 15/03/2024 13:59

And for anyone in Limerick there is the added joy of voting for a directly elected mayor. I also just had a local election canvasser around ten minutes ago.

StephanieSuperpowers · 15/03/2024 15:01

Like a rabbit out of a trap! Whoever it was definitely wants it.

It is a Friday - god I'm some fool.

Bloody great, the kids are off the previous Friday and then the Monday of that week for the June bank hol. Then they’ll be off again for this!
Sorry, not the point at all.

Pat Leahy: I’ve worked out when the general election is most likely to be

Two sets of political considerations will influence the decision: tactical and practical.

Various posts on XTwitter have inspired me to wonder how exactly one slips holy medals into the ballot box (without being spotted and confirming suspicions that one is a nutter) and which saints are likely to provide optimal intervention in which categories of vote.

Saint Jude was always the man for hopeless cases, but I don't know whether he features much on medals.

Who are the hopeless cases.

DeanElderberry · 15/03/2024 19:26

I have not yet seen who is aspiring to be elected this time round, but will be surprised if none of them fit the description.

DublinFemale · 15/03/2024 20:56

Ah right.

I was thinking you were thinking of St Jude for the electorate.

Not even St Jude could help the fools hoping to feed at the trough

There's always the prayer cards that you have in handbags. Less tinkly than a medal ! Or maybe a sticker or stamp?

St Patrick to cleanse the land from political snakes?
Or as yet unconfirmed saints JK Rowling or Hilary Cass?
