Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice!

I'm English, married to an Irishman and we have a little girl who's being christened in his family church back home next month

I've been to loads of catholic weddings but not a christening and I'm wondering what kind of dress code it would be?

For context I've been to one C of E christening as a teenager and ive no recollection of what I wore.

I want to look nice for the photos and don't want to look over/under dressed!

Thankyou Smile

Round here Mums usually wear what they'd wear to a wedding as a guest. Guests can vary from wedding guest outfit to more casual.

You’d go quite dressy I’d say. A dress and jacket, or suit type of thing. Heels or boots given it’s Feb

I wore a trouser suit and dressy top to the christenings of my kids. Some wear dressy clothes but not black tie dressy, just something more that office attire and Sunday best (if that helps)

Anything from royals going to Easter Mass to an episode of Geordie Shore

Absolutely this. I definitely didn't go as dressed up as a wedding guest type outfit for mine but more dressy casual. It's entirely up to yourself and whatever you feel comfortable in and whatever your personal style is.

A nice dress or a trouser suit for mother and godmother usually. The father and godfather usually in suits. Guests may be dressy or casual probably depending on what is happening after

Both of mine were in the Summer so a different vibe but I wore a nice 50s style summer dress with heels and a little cardigan. For this time of year I would go with a really nice high quality dress or trouser top combo of the kind someone would wear to an important work event with a nice winter coat and good jewellery, bag, shoes/boots etc. Think classy not flashy. The coat is probably the most important thing because you certainly won't be taking it off in the church. 🥶. But as always, anything that's your own personal style but that looks like you made an effort is always the best bet. There is definitely no need to look like you are going to a wedding unless being super dressy is your personal style..

Definitely a nice coat. The chapel will be freezing this time of year
