I'm looking for advise/recommendations re secondary school’s in Belfast.
We are in the early stages of planning a move from London ( to South Belfast specifically) and need to find a school for DS currently yr9.
Have absolutely no clue where to start re schools as no contacts in NI.
He is currently at an all boys catholic school. He is reasonably outgoing and confident, quite academic but not sporty.
Are there any obvious choices we should consider equally places to avoid?
Worried his English accent may make him an easy target for teasing/ bullying.
Would really appreciate any insight

If you're near a train station in BT9 then the train would be a good option for BRA. Train to York street then there's a school bus (around 5-10 minutes). BRA also very diverse and English accents would not stand out. Very big on sports/ music/ arts/ drama.

Not a handy commute at all though. Train from Balmoral/Adelaide to Grand Central, then catch another train to York Street before finally getting a bus to school. Translink is notoriously unreliable with constant delays and cancellations. Not pleasant standing at unsheltered trains stations in the cold/dark/wet of winter either

I personally couldn’t justify adding an hour of commuting each way to my child’s day when you’re got great schools like Methody and Victoria on your doorstep.

@BeatriceAndLottie
I agree I wouldn't choose it if there are places elsewhere in nearer schools. Just pointing out that it is doable on public transport. 35-40 mins total train plus 10 minutes max on school bus.

How you getting on with the Big Plan, OP?

I'm biased, I confess - but, as a former Rathmoron, it really was (and remains, I think) an excellent school for academics...though maybe less hot on sport. Handy for BT9 too.

There was a "wee English fella" (to quote Derry Girls) in our year and he fitted in OK. I left school in 1999 for Cambridge (as I say - an outstanding education, free: we'd have to pay £30K a year for the equivalent here in London).
