Hopefully some closure.
Ur heart would go out to her family.
Such a sad story.
Between the erratic husband and backstory.
Address being searched seems to be home.
Now we hope her family has closure.
Do hope she’s at peace.

I don’t understand. Why wasn’t a cadaver dog used in 2017? Surely that is basic policing when someone disappears in suspicious circumstances.

They couldn't get a warrant at the time I'd imagine to start tearing down his house. They didn't have the evidence.
His house is semi detached and until recently was vacant. It was sold during the year and apparently they where doing works and there was an issue with the drains and something was discovered. My family live in youghal and the gardai where digging up the footpath and drains outside the house as well.
The discovery in the drains by the contractor gave them enough evidence to obtain the warrant to do a more invasive search

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 07:37

I read somewhere that it was a recent review of the case that made them reconsider the building of the interior wall. If that is how they discovered the remains, rather than new evidence, it really is a huge failure on the part of the gardai.

It does make you wonder about the investigations into those missing girls from years ago, they know who it did it, but have never been able to nail him, other than for that horrendous rape.

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 07:39

The discovery in the drains by the contractor gave them enough evidence to obtain the warrant to do a more invasive search.

That is what I have heard too.

WaveyGodshawk · 13/10/2023 07:51

RIP at last Tina. At least she has been found and justice can be done.

AnImaginaryCat · 13/10/2023 07:56

Most newspapers are saying its the reinvestĺgation that revealed more evidence I think.

I know it depends on the sequence of events, but I still don't see how they missed the new wall - which seems to be what sparked the investigation.

Mind you I'm not to sure which information I've read or heard in the news and which I've read posted by people on the Internet.

When or why the cadaver dog was brought in (which I am admittedly presuming happened before the digging up of the house)?

Do you need a warrant to bring a dog in? (Probably do.)

For me t's not so much why didn't they dig up the house in 2017, more why wasn't the new wall noted and a cadaver dog brought in then.

How come that part of the investigation didn't happen then? Unless it did of course and there wasn't a body in the house at the time.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 08:00

I would assume the body was not there for quite some time till the heat died down. He said he was gone to dungarvan shopping and she was gone when he came back but she as easily could have 'gone' to dungarvan with him if you get me. Also as a truck driver people probably would not have taken notice of what he was putting or taking in the van. News says detectives noticed the wall 3 months after she went missing but unless they did do a search then and found nothing we wont know cos he will never confess.

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 09:07

I think you are right about the body being moved, if they said the wall was built 3 months after she disappeared, probably why they are searching the storage unit now.

If this is accurate, then it does seem to be whatever the builders discovered is what prompted the search.

'the latest developments in the investigation came several days after utility workers trying to clear a blocked drain in the area brought suspicious material to the attention of gardaí.'

The remains were of an 'almost' complete skeleton.

So sad and so abhorrent that he has lived the past seven years as a free man, believing he had gotten away with murder.

Those cadaver dogs are pretty amazing.

Wendysfriend · 13/10/2023 09:23

This gets more distressing.

So was his house sold? And new owners were doing work ? Or next door?

It's shocking that he woke each morning knowing she was there buried😢

I don't know if I watch too many crime programmes but I would have assumed that in a missing persons case where they think something sinister has happened that they check everywhere in the house especially if a wall has been built indoors blocking off an area. Like who does home renovations when their spouse is missing.

They would have had no problems getting search warrants especially in a case like this .

Poor woman my heart breaks for her and her family.

WaveyGodshawk · 13/10/2023 09:48

His whole story was screaming "I killed her" from the start. She asks him to go to the shops, has disappeared by time he gets home and he doesn't check with her family for 4 days??
And all his TV and newspaper interviews, it was textbook. How could they not have searched the house properly before now, just how?
Her poor family being in limbo all this time 💔

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 10:56

His whole story was screaming "I killed her" from the start.

Absolutely.

And him 'finding' two suitcases in a tesco car park, which looked like they might belong to Tina, he really believed he was going to get away with it, and he did for years.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 11:14

Well he sure as shit wont this time. They have till 6 to decide to charge or release but once her remains have been formally identified as Tina he is fcuked and good. He is a nasty piece of work.

eggandonion · 13/10/2023 11:25

I have never heard of cadaver dog being used before.
The weirdest thing is the suitcases appearing...what was that all about?

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 11:35

Dunno but he stood with the cases till gardai came. Complete bullshitter and loving the public eye.

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 12:19

It's just being reported the remains are now confirmed as Tina Satchwell, RIP.

Her family finally have it confirmed their suspicions of him all along were correct.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 12:20

Now he can be charged.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 19:08

They really are now leaving it till the last minute to charge him ffs. They cannot let him go at this point.

WaveyGodshawk · 13/10/2023 19:21

I was fully expecting to hear he'd been charged by now. Have they extended his detention?
I thought I read earlier also that DNA confirmation will take some weeks. Surely they don't have to wait until that's back?

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 19:23

They have till 8pm to charge him.

Wendysfriend · 13/10/2023 19:39

The Irish times reported that dental records confirmed it was her.

Wendysfriend · 13/10/2023 20:07

He's been charged

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 20:10

Actually finally charged? Oh thank christ, where did you see this?

Wendysfriend · 13/10/2023 20:12

On Paul Byrne's Facebook page, he's virgin media

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 20:15

I just saw it there thanks for the heads up. Finally that bastard is where he belongs. No doubt he will plead not guilty tomorrow. He is worse than Joe O Reilly.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 13/10/2023 20:18

I hope the discovery and charging on him give her family some comfort.

I'm a terrible liar at the best of time and cannot figure out how anyone can lie like that for so long, so publically etc. Delusion? arrogance? necessity? Heartless?

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/10/2023 20:20

Narcissism or some kind of psychopathy. He lied about so much but adding in things like the suitcases outside tesco and everything - the man is warped.
