DS got knocked off his electric bike today. He was on a bike lane and the driver was turning right off the road into a car park, crossing the bike lane. The driver admitted that he misjudged the speed of the bike. DS just has bruises and grazes, he had a friend on the cross bar of the bike who also just has bruises. (Both I and the mum of the other boy have had words about the danger of having a passenger on a bike.) The bike is a write-off I think, it's in two pieces, so we will want to replace that. Plus one of DS's trainers was torn.
We have a claim number because the driver informed his insurance within a hour or so and they sent the claim number and the contact details for the claim handler to me. I've never had to claim or had a claim against me so I'm not sure how it works. The insurance company asked for any photos taken at the scene, when DS phoned me I told him to take some of the bike, the front of the car, the insurance disc, the car licence plate and any injuries. Do we just send that stuff off with a summary of what happened from DS's point of view and tell them what we intend to claim for? Do they then send out a claim form? How long does it normally take (we're in Ireland)? The entire claim will be under €1000 (€850 for the bike and whatever a pair of Nike trainers currently costs) since there are no medical costs.
