Dublin to Newark (Aer Lingus) - can I take my own snacks on board after clearing US customs and immigration in Dublin?

Flying on an Aer Lingus saver ticket to get to a family wedding in New Jersey. Which means I clear both US immigration and US customs in Dublin.

I know I get a meal on the flight but I'm very snacky and like to take stuff from home to nibble on rather than buy at the airport - obviously nothing with nuts in it.

I know that I have to finish whatever it is before I get off the plane but can I take it on in the first place if I'm clearing Customs in Dublin?

Thanks

Yes of course you can. Keep it standard in terms of snacks and you'll be fine. The shops/food offering after pre clearance is awful so best to be prepared once leaving the general duty free area.

Yes, I have!! Clearing customs was absolutely fine, they didn't check our bags / carryons so all the food I had with me (snacks for the plane!) was all fine.

Yes, I always bring gluten free vegi food from home as the airlines can’t cater for a coeliac vegetarian.

It's really nice to be able to pre-clear customs in Dublin.

I seem to recall being asked about fruit before - and it was a while ago so I can't remember if he allowed me to bring an apple on board to eat in flight but it needed to stay on the plane or if I had to bin it beside him (I know I had to bin cheese in Canada before so May be mixing up memories).

But certainly things like crisps, crackers, chocolate, pastries etc should be fine. And there are some reasonable places in T2 to get things after security before US customs.

(Check beforehand but if it would be allowed, walk as far as T1 after security to the Wrights of Howth shop for expensive but lovely smoked salmon or prawn cocktail salads with 2 slices of McCambridges brown bread (they give you the bread already wrapped and with packs of butter at the till)...I love that as a plane snack or even as my dinner when going to Europe and I'll be too late for restaurants as plane food is so expensive and crap).

I always take a Tupperware of sandwiches on flights. Lovely thick BLTs instead of overpriced onboard crap! Never been an issue.

Thank you all.
