Ireland and UK- double baptism…

Hello!
I wondered if anyone could help with a baptism based question! My husband and I intend to baptise our son in a Catholic Church. My husband is Irish. We are debating whether we should do the baptism in the UK or Ireland…
The question is whether we could technically have two baptisms, one in the UK and one in Ireland. For various reasons, important people on either side of the family will not be able to travel from the UK to Ireland and vice versa.
Is having a (potentially secret!) double baptism something that would be technically possible? We really don’t want people in our family to miss out, so we are in a bit of a quandary!
Thank you!

No, baptism is a sacrament that is performed only once.

And the RC church recognises all Christian baptisms, and does not re-do converts from other denominations

It would only be possible if you lie to the parish priests, and I don't think that's a terribly good start to your DC's religious life.

As it is likely that FC would be done in your home parish, then have the baptism in the other location (where you could also have an extra welcome/blessing with party afterwards)

Sorry - that came out a bit garbled!

I meant:

  • baptism at other location
  • other blessing/welcome at home location
  • FC at home location idc

Could you not have the baptism in one country then a celebration in the other.

Our church would do a blessing service for a baby who is already baptised. I've seen this twice, once for a baby who was baptised away from home in Ireland and was then welcomed into their local church in a blessing service.

The second was for a family who live in NZ and had their baby baptised there at home. The service of blessing was for the baby to be welcomed into the Church in the UK where her grandparents attend.

I know it seems like a weird idea but both services were lovely, welcoming the baby into our specific Church family even though they were baptised elsewhere. The service for the NZ baby was particularly emotional because the priest spoke of the connection we all have and the part we can play in supporting the family even though we live on opposite sides of the world. There were a few tears from the grandparents at that point.

But to answer your actual question, no, you can't have your baby baptised twice.
