Is anyone from Monaghan (Hospital question)

My sister who lives in Navan has an upcoming hospital appointment at Monaghan hospital, we've never been that way before so wondered if anyone could help me out with some questions please.

I'm going to go with her from her house in Navan as she's extremely nervous and suffers with severe anxiety. I'll be heading to hers the day before from Dublin, unfortunately I won't have our car as dh will and will be in Waterford and sister doesn't drive, so we'll be bussing it.

I have been online checking buses, it's a bit of a minefield, I'm getting bus numbers but some don't start until 11am, I was thinking we'd get the 109x from Navan to Cavan bus station but I'm lost after that, can anyone recommend which bus would be best to get from Cavan bus station? I see there's a bus from Cavan hospital but I'm not sure how far that is? Or can anyone use it?

Would it be better if we travel the night before and stay over and go to the appointment the next morning? Is there hotels close to the hospital or something that would be a short taxi drive? Again I've googled but when you're unfamiliar with the area it's hard to judge.

About the hospital, she received a letter, she's to have a covid test when she enters, there's a list of things she needs to do, like masks, temperature check, having to wait in the car park before appointment, no one is allowed with her?? Does this still happen? I'm in Crumlin and temple street and tallaght hospital weekly with my dd and all this stopped ages ago. I attend Beaumont and the Matter myself and it doesn't happen there either. She's in a state because she really needs to attend this appointment as she's been waiting 5 years for it. But all this covid stuff and having to do it alone is stressing her out in a huge way, she's having daily panic attacks over it. I'm afraid she'll cancel it.

If anyone can advise I'd be so great full.

Not knowledgeable about Monaghan but I live in Navan. Is there any way she can do her treatment in Drogheda instead? The bus from Navan to Drogheda goes directly past Our Lady Hospital.

It's going to be a pain in the arse getting to Monaghan by bus. Why not rent a car? There's a car rental place on Academy Street in Navan.

Thank you for your reply, she was referred to 2 hospitals, she's been waiting 5 years to be called for a appointment to one of them, Monaghan came in 1st, she had asked her GP if possible to wait until there's an appointment at the other hospital to come up but he said she could be waiting much, much longer that the waiting lists are very long and also because there is not many Consultants in this field.

Unfortunately renting a car is way out of our budget.

Sounds much simpler for DH to make alternative arrangements and you to have the car. He’s not doing anything near as important as what you are doing is he?

Get your sister to come to you in Dublin and get the bus to Monaghan from busaras. They are frequent and easy.

Also the hospital is a 10 minute walk from the bus station in Monaghan. It is slightly up hill some of the way so you get a taxi if there are mobility issues.

Unfortunately dh needs the car, his job involves driving, he'll be in 3 Counties over the next 8 weeks, he will have no way getting to the different places without a car.

I had been looking at the go monaghan bus, I was thinking the 109x from navan to cavan, i think we may go with this option.

Thank you for that. That sounds perfect if it's just 10 mins we would get a taxi as sister uses walking sticks. Good to know it's close by
