Does anyone have any experience of
Comeragh Wilderness Academy?
My DSis is having a v hard time with her teenage son at the moment and is thinking of sending him there for a year to sort him out.
TIA

I've never heard of it but their website looks very slick, the photos are beautiful.
I wonder what the teaching standards are? The principal, deputy head and educational officer all seem to have no teaching qualifications at all??? or if they have, then they are not listed... that would worry me a little! And there's only photos of two teaching staff with no real details.
The site also does not mention if the students are prepared for external examinations at all...I would be interested to know where their students go on to after they finish.

I'm interested to find out more though!

Good point about the teaching qualifications - I think they are more about emotional development than learning though.

My nephew will be in his TY year so my DSis and her DH are not too concerned about academic studies.

Has anyone heard of it or know of a child who has been?

I'm in secondary and have never come across this before.

The one qualification mentioned is a level 7 which is a national diploma pass degree in old money. Teachers need higher qualifications to teach here.

I am in third level never heard of it. I would be very cautious of any new residential school. Ireland doesn't have a great track record.

Yes I know them. We live close to them. Wonderful people. There is an openday every 2nd month.
It is an american concept. Loads of hands on learning.
I' d be happy to get you in touch with them.

I believe its founded on quaker philosophy.

I dont know where the idea orignated from. But is it a well known concept in the USA. The people running it here in Ireland are the amish/mennonites (anabaptists). I think there used to be a great connection between the quakers and anabaptists in the USA around the time William Penn went to the USA and pennsylvania was founded.
