Disgusting images being shared on Twitter from Navan

There is currently a video circulating on Twitter where a kid walking home from school is getting the living crap kicked and slapped out of him because he is gay.
That is the only reason he is being attacked.

It is utterly disgusting to see.

The Gardai are investigating but it's unlikely that anything serious will happen to them apart from a slap on the wrist and being told not to do it again (which seems to be the modus operandi of most judges sitting on the bench at the moment).

The school was also named in a tweet. As they were clearly identifiable, I don't think there is anything amiss by saying the scum (and they were) go to Beaufort College.

Have you seen the video?

I saw the horrific video, that poor boy set upon by those thugs who know they'll get away with it.

TheVeryThing · 17/05/2023 19:09

I haven't seen it and don't wish to. It's totally inappropriate to share the video and gardaí have asked people not to.
I really hope that these scumbags are arrested and charged with assault.
That poor boy he must be so traumatised.

Ihateboris · 17/05/2023 19:13

That poor boy. My younger brother was beaten up "for being gay " when he was 16. The animals broke his jaw and he still has a speech impediment to this day (he's now 40). Some things will never change.

honeyrider · 17/05/2023 19:22

I doubt much will happen to the scum who did this, they'll probably get off being underage. At the very least they should be expelled from school.

bellinisurge · 17/05/2023 20:32

Those disgusting kids - and they aren't that young- need to face legal consequences. Hope that poor boy is ok and he gets good support as he recovers.

NaomhPadraigin · 18/05/2023 16:05

I haven't seen it and I wouldn't watch it in a Million years. I asked my teenage DC if they'd seen it on SM & they haven't thank god (we're not very near Navan, but you never know how fast these things spread online).
The school are being openly named as the people in the video are wearing the school uniform.
I really hope they get more than a detention & a slap in the wrist! It's sickening.

honeyrider · 18/05/2023 16:14

I hadn't heard about the video but happened to be scrolling through twitter and the video was playing like all videos when you're scrolling. It's horrific and shocking. I reckon they'd have killed him if the two or three brave lads hadn't put themselves at risk and dragged the thugs off the poor boy.

The kid that was attacked was brought to hospital.
Apparently, he was nearly at a relatives house when he was attacked.
The victim was left with broken teeth (some scumbag kicked him in the mouth and broke his teeth) and with a footprint on his forehead.

It's so disgusting.

And then I go and read this story where a 17 year old was assaulted in Dublin. Not assaulted - attacked.

Time to stop softening up the terms used here. Time to start showing the outcome of these events.

Every time I hear about an attack like this, I think about Mamie Till who had an open casket for her son who was lynched for no reason and the woman who 'cried wolf' and lied that he had attacked her only passed away recently. I think after every attack the images of the injuries should be made public. I think after every mass shooting in the USA, the crime scene photographs should be broadcast on every news channel.

Teenager (17) hospitalised with serious head injuries in Bluebell assault

Gardaí say he was attacked by “a group of males” on La Touche Road in Bluebell yesterday evening.

My sons showed me it, it's on TikTok as well.

Horrendous. And the people who feel it's ok to video it should be punished also

honeyrider · 19/05/2023 11:54

Three teens have been arrested and it's being treated as a hate crime.

WaveyGodshawk · 19/05/2023 12:09

They are talking about cautions and juvenile liason officers being appointed - can under 18s actually not be prosecuted here?! Hmm
Obviously I know they can, but surely an attack of this magnitude shouldn't be dealt with by way of a caution.
I couldn't watch the video, reading the descriptions alone made me feel sick

WaveyGodshawk · 19/05/2023 12:12

From the Indo:

Garda juvenile liaison officers (JLOs) work with children who have committed offences and liaise with their families and victims about their behaviour as part of the Garda Youth Diversion programme.
“If gardaí go down this line in this case and it is deemed suitable for the programme, a formal caution will be given to the suspected offenders and their future behaviour will be supervised,” the source said.

bellinisurge · 19/05/2023 12:36

A caution? Seriously?

LookItsMeAgain · 19/05/2023 16:09

They caused actual bodily harm here. Physical harm.

They should be locked up!

The teenage scumbags in this country know they have free rein to do as they please. There are no consequences anymore.

"The teenage scumbags in this country know they have free rein to do as they please. There are no consequences anymore."

I totally agree with you @Crunchingleaf.

Our fecking politicians denounce these activities yet do not change the laws to ensure harsher sentences on wrongdoers.
Victims come last in the Irish Justice system. It's heartbreaking.

EmpireStateOfMine · 20/05/2023 10:30

What about civil action in Ireland? Can victims sue their attackers for damages if they’re over a certain age?

Good point!

If his friends or family set up a crowdfunder I'm in. These bastards should be kept off the streets for a long time.

elgreco · 27/05/2023 19:38

Did they film it themselves or was it a bystander?

Either the person filming it or someone next to the person filming it were heard encouraging the thuggery. The video also showed others standing around filming it.

elgreco · 27/05/2023 21:22

Thanks, that's so weird, as if beating someone up wasn't bad enough! Who films it and then post it online both grim and incriminating!
