Getting parcel to Ireland when they do not ship outside UK?

Pralineandcoffee · 05/05/2023 13:06

I really want to buy a product that doesn't ship to Ireland only UK and I can't get anywhere else.
How can I get it delivered to me? Is there anyway around it?

Ladysquamy · 05/05/2023 17:30

I don't think there's any way round that.

Darthwazette · 05/05/2023 17:31

Can you use a reputable re shipping company? I’ve done that a couple of times when I lived overseas

Smallfry79 · 05/05/2023 18:43

Try using addresspal by An Post.
There is a fee but i dont think it's too big depending on the size of the parcel

usernameV2 · 05/05/2023 18:44

You might have to call on family or friends in UK?

Utterlypeanuterly · 05/05/2023 18:46

Parcel Motel was great until Brexit. I was wondering the same thing OP. I saw some clothes I like on a UK site but no option to deliver to Ireland.

Parcel Motel used to allow you to receive parcels to an NI address, but unfortunately have stopped now. Maybe AddressPal do it now?

Use a forwarding service like forward to me.

WomanBitingATowel · 05/05/2023 19:25

When I wanted to buy a sofa from Loaf, they said they would deliver to a UK shipping warehouse from which I could arrange a pick-up by an international delivery firm that would deliver to Ireland. I decided it sounds too much faff, so I never got as far as figuring out extra costs, customs duty etc.

Pralineandcoffee · 06/05/2023 20:17

Thought I might be missing a trick but seems not, thanks everyone

I work for a company who only ship to Uk mainland, the only thing we offer to customers is to collect from us directly and arrange your own shipping to Ireland using your own company, TNT, UPS etc. However for us it isn’t worth it to go involved now

elevenplusdilemma · 06/05/2023 20:33

What's the item? Could it be that customs restrictions prevent it being sent to Ireland?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 06/05/2023 20:50

Addresspal still works. However, you need to get an invoice attached and AddressPal will then fill in the customs forms and you are liable to customs.

I've only used it once since brexit and it was with a small supplier who taped the invoice to the outside of the package. I don't know if they will open a package to get the invoice as I seem to recall asking him to attach it to the outside.

This is why I'm an Amazon Prime addict 😬

reesewithoutaspoon · 06/05/2023 20:54

Its an absolute pain. I have relatives in Eire and Amazon gets there ok. But any I send personally go missing about 50% of the time. We have had parcels opened and resealed with the original contents replaced with junk. Hand knitted baby clothes going missing. I have stopped sending now and just take it personally when I visit.

shivawn · 06/05/2023 21:01

AddressPal but fees are quite high from UK now. It's probably 2 years since I last used it so maybe things have changed but they charge customs and a €10 processing fee on top. Unless it's a high value item then I think it just adds too much to the cost.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/05/2023 21:10

I use AddressPal quite a bit, both from the UK and the US. I will generally use them even if the retailer is willing to ship to Ireland as it generally goes more smoothly. I don't know if they have a different team calculating the VAT and duty from the regular An Post team, but everything that comes through AddressPal is correctly calculated for VAT and duty whereas regular deliveries seem to have a random guess as to value then tripled so that I end up paying more in VAT than the actual item cost to buy.

Often if you buy things in the UK or the US they will have free delivery within the country, so while I do pay a fee to AddressPal it's usually less than the delivery would have been without using AddressPal.

Eire means load or burden.

The country is called Ireland, unless you are speaking in Irish, in which case it's Éire.

BlurredVision · 06/05/2023 21:18

AddressPal if it's small or not a restricted item (e.g. very annoyingly perfume is restricted so that won't work). And add in VAT, customs and the handling charge it goes up a lot so it would need to be worth it. Furniture size stuff won't work on AddressPal.

Well, if you don’t know the name of the country to which you’re posting something, I’m not surprised so many of your parcels go AWOL.

Ok. Didn't know that, thanks for letting me know. I thought Eire was used to differentiate between the Republic and the north, my error. But I do address to Republic of Ireland when I'm posting, still goes missing though, other family have experienced the same.

The RoI is called Ireland, NI is called Northern Ireland. The Irish word for ireland is Éire, not Éire.

Éire (or the very incorrect Éire) is sometimes used to refer to Ireland when speaking English by those of a particular political persuasion who disagree with Ireland being used to refer to RoI so its use can be a bit loaded.

Grassisbluer · 08/05/2023 00:39

Think you meant to say Eire is incorrect in your last post@OchonAgusOchonOh.

I found the charges put on items bought from / coming from the UK made them very expensive, sadly.
It really is annoying.

However, some larger UK companies have European websites that mean those extra customs charges do not have to be paid by the customer.

Flipping Brexit. Sad
