Such a tragic accident in Galway, can't imagine the pain that the families are going through.

RIP to the two young people who lost their lives, best wishes to the 2 injured for a good recovery (I can imagine the mental anguish may be as hard as physical injuries).

Always so sad when tragic accidents happens. What confuses me is where were these four 13 year olds going at 5.30am and who's car were they in? I know it's an Irish thing to never comment on situations like this, and just offer condolences but sometimes we need to ask questions.

I have to say I was amazed such young kids were out and driving. But i'm very innocent, kids grow up a lot faster these days. RIP to the two young people that died.

Well theres plenty of Irish people asking those questions on social media and in conversations ive overheard. Presumably they did the sneaky teenage stupid thing of sneaky out of their house and/or telling their parents they were at Xs house when they were actually elsewhere. Ive heard that at least one was discovered to be missing and a relative out looking for them came on the crash scene as the services arrived.
Such a tragedy, and the gossip and circumstances make it so much harder for the families. Third accident involving teens in galway in about as many months

That's awful for the poor relative.

I have asked those questions privately. Teenagers think they're invincible & I don't want to judge as I have 2 teenage boys and I am very conscious that this is something that could happen to any family.

A lot of deaths this past weekend - in Meath, Laois and Galway. Condolences to the families and friends of those who died. It must be heartbreaking and incomprehensible for all concerned. I hope the survivors of the Galway crash recover from their injuries.

"I know it's an Irish thing to never comment on situations like this". It's not an Irish thing. It's a common sense thing. Teenagers were being teenagers, and it ended tragically. No need to ask questions, just have empathy.

I agree.

So sad for their loved ones.

Some local information emerging, but don't know how accurate it is so won't repeat it on a public forum. A sibling lives in the locality so I'll probably hear from them at the weekend what the locals know.

What struck me when we heard the tragic news is that you lock your house to keep people getting in, but not to prevent people getting out. Our front and back door just have twist knobs to unlock on the inside and our car keys are always on the hooks in the kitchen where we can always find them. And in fact, if someone breaks in to steal your car, security experts advise you to have the keys visible so they just take the car and go without waking the home-owners as that can escalate a burglary to something much more serious.

My 11yo had his friends over for a sleepover last night and I heard two of them downstairs at 4am - just getting a drink thankfully. I'd sent them all to bed at 12.30, assuming they would conk, but they just stayed awake chatting! Like the area of the crash, we are also miles from any town and not within walking distance of the village. But it just goes to show how easily they could sneak out. And that's terrifying!

And yes, I did a head count when I returned the strays back to the bedroom! And checked on them half an hour later to make sure they were really were all finally asleep.
