UK mortgage for Irish property

Hello everyone, we are returning to Ireland from the UK this year and wondered whether anybody else who has moved back looked into whether they could get a mortgage in the UK for an Irish property? Anybody who's been through the process knows how restrictive Irish banks are with lending to people moving back to Ireland (credit history, lower and less lending options, ideally one year renting first etc). I've just begun exploring whether a UK bank could provide us with a mortgage instead, at least for the next few years, and the suggestion in articles I've read is a very tentative maybe, but before I start ringing around all the banks to check, it would be great to know if somebody has already done this and reached a dead end, or indeed was able to get a mortgage. Thank you to anybody who can provide an insight.

Can't provide an insight but I would be very surprised if this is possible.

I spoke to one of the biggest UK mortgage brokers, who shot the idea down immediaty. Going to try Ulster Bank UK but impression I am getting is it's not possible.

I wouldn't imagine so, they are no longer both linked to EU banking directives.

There are very limited non residential mortgages in Ireland and tend to be very high earner and deposit dependent.

Highly unlikely due to the difficulties of repossessing property in a different jurisdiction. It's very difficult reposess a property in Ireland at the best of times not to mind if you are a bank domiciled outside the country.

Now of course they may never need to reposess but banks will always look at worst case scenario when advancing money. I'd put your chances of getting finance at pretty much zero unfortunately.
