Long weekend in N I

We're hoping to go Friday-Mon in NI, flying into Belfast. All we know for sure is we really want to see the Giant's Causeway and explore the coast. Is this a realistic expectation in a relatively short visit?

What route or stops would you recommend?
Much obliged, in advance.

We did the bus tour of Belfast. Would highly rate it.
Northern Ireland tourism would be worth contacting re trips to the Giants Causeway.
Google discovernorthernireland.com
I was. Just looking at their brochure this morning. Sorry I can't do links.

On public transport the causeway will take a full day. If you hired a car it would be a better option as you can see the whole coast. I assume the bus uses the motorway.

When are you coming?
The Gobbins cliff walk is fab. Also the rope bridge at carrick a rede. Black taxi tour in Belfast. If interested in titanic the visitor centre is good.

For a long weekend we stayed in Belfast and did a coach tour that included the giant's causeway and the rope bridge. It's not really 'exploring the coast' but we really enjoyed it.

To make your own way you could easily hire a car and book your own hotel/ airbnb up in the North. Definitely time for that with a 3 night stay.

If you want to be based in Belfast I would highly recommend the black cab tour. We also enjoyed the Crumlin Road Gaol. I've heard the titanic museum is really good, but didn't do it myself.

Love Belfast- fabulous pubs, bars and restaurants.

Agree re Titanic museum. I thought I'd find it ghoulish - it's not, it's fascinating.
When we visited, your Titanic ticket included access to an old ship berthed beside the museum. Anybody been onto it?
I also enjoyed the linen museum in Lisburn.

We did the Titanjc experience and the SS Nomadic moored next to it - found Nomadic really interesting.

I'd definitely recommend the Peace Wall, and the murals along the Falls Road. Fascinating to see if you remember the Troubles.

Thank you so much for all the ideas! We have booked it! We are hiring a car, driving up to Giant's Causeway via the dark hedges. (GoT fan here.) Then off around the coast. a long drive down to Mount Stewart. Then into Belfast for some exploring. Will look in to the Black Cab tour!

Are you doing causeway and Mount Stewart on the same day? That might be a stretch.

Johnduttonsbuttocks · 12/02/2023 18:42

No, We are doing:
From Belfast to the dark hedges, then giant's causeway. Stay overnight.
Coastal drive down to Mount Stewart, late afternoon back into Belfast.
Final day in Belfast.
Is that doable?

I thoroughly recommend the political 'black cab tours' which run in Belfast which also showcase the many wall murals in the city.

Belfast has so much history - much of it recent - and the tour makes you re-consider everything you thought you knew. My DS (was then about 20) said it was the most interesting thing he'd done all year and he wasn't even born during The Troubles.

Johnduttonsbuttocks · 12/02/2023 20:20

Yes, we will look that out (though may not be running Easter Sunday!)
