Hi,
I've just ordered something from UK from a small business website, they charged me VAT and now I have just received An Post notification asking for VAT this side. Am I supposed to pay double VAT? The item was only 30euro but now is becoming more than 50euro. I'm so confused over ordering since Brexit and to be honest buried my head in the sand. Thanks

It's custom fees An Post are charging.

Is the vat no customs vat
So you paid vat to trader for goods , then you pay vat and duty if applicable to customs and often fee

Ah flip sake! It nearly doubled the price of the item. It says on the an post slip import duty €0, excise duty €0 VAT €6.47. Plus admin fee. I'll have to order from EU in future. I've just been ordering from amazon the last while.

I know where you're coming from.
It's so expensive to order from the UK now I just don't bother.
I bought clothing for approximately £18 from a UK website. It ended up costing me €38 approximately.

You shouldn’t be paying for VAT twice. Assuming the seller is the UK (and the goods started in the UK) the sale from the UK should have no UK vat on it as a zero rated export.

Irish VAT should be payable when the goods enter Ireland (plus customs duties and postage if applicable).

It's likely/possible that the company you ordered from in the UK are not set up properly for collection of EU VAT. If they were, then you'd be charged Irl VAT on the purchase, and no additional VAT on the import.

Here is a simple description of how it should work: LINK
