Irish passport first time overseas application

I live abroad and had my baby here a few months ago. I'm Irish and applied for baby's passport online in March and by the time I organised myself, sent the supporting documents in April. This is when the clock starting ticking and they started to process the application. They said the passport should be ready by 1st June.

It's now 20th June and it's still processing. I spoke to them on the webchat last Monday and they said they would alert their colleagues and things should move a bit faster.

Still no change so I contacted them this morning and the lady said they can't do anything else but make a note.

I am due to fly home in the second week of July. Aside from wanting to go home so everyone can meet my baby, I live in a very hot country and I am sick of the heat! My elderly parents will also be gutted if we don't get back and we will lose the cost of our flight (we have other kids, so not cheap). International registered Post takes 5-7 days but even that seems optimistic.

The lady said there are no notes on my application and all the documents have been verified already, so hopefully everything will go smoothly.

I'm just wondering if any other expats have also experienced this and had a quick turnaround in the end? Also, do they update the tracker during the day or it just once a day?

Any experiences or ideas?

Thanks

Ask MN to have your post moved to the Craicnet board.

It's full of Irish posters who may have some experience of delayed passports.

Other than that, do you have an Irish consulate nearby that you could go and bother?

How to send documents to Irish Passport Office in UK safely

I made two of these posts and the other has been taken down. If you were on the other thread please keep me updated!

Imohsotired · 26/06/2022 22:27

@Itsonlyabiscuit sent you a PM!

Itsonlyabiscuit · 27/06/2022 09:05

OK so I had another thread going and in it I asked someone to share the link for the appointments to get the British passport in one week. Is anyone else knows can they please share it, as I can't seem to find the right one.

For anyone else who was following the previous thread, please do keep me updated. 13 days until we fly and the Irish one is 'still processing'. Witness not yet contacted yet according to the progress bar, we are past the verifying documents stage. I don't believe it.

I'm starting to accept that I'll not get back to Ireland this Summer. Its so hard as so many people are excited to meet our baby.

Oh well, nothing we can do.

To whoever gave me the top about refreshing the page on the British passport website (on the other thread)..thank you!!!! We got a slot! My husband is going to fly into Ireland for the appointment in Belfast and fly back to where we live that night.

Imohsotired · 04/07/2022 08:17

I got a dispatch update on mine. Hoping it will be here today or tomorrow.

Itsonlyabiscuit · 04/07/2022 22:05

@Imohsotired great news! When are you off on hols?

My poor husband flew to Ireland today for the appointment for the 1 week British passport. It will be posted to my parents' house in a week and they will courier it over to me.

Irish passport is still processing. God save the Queen!

That’s great you have the U.K. passport sorted @Itsonlyabiscuit, that was my next move but was leaving it as long as possible. We’re going to New York and Iceland, I can’t wait for a change of scenery! Hope all goes well with your trip home

Itsonlyabiscuit · 05/07/2022 09:09

@Imohsotired oh wow what an amazing trip!! Did you get your PP yet? Did you tell me yours was due on 2nd June?

As of this morning, my baby's Irish passport is still processing. Our original flight was booked for 11th July, which we had to move back to leave enough time for the British one to be posted out.

The Irish passport office was made aware of our original travel dates 3 times. I applied in April. It takes one day to print, then the international post takes 5-7 days. This means that had we not been able to apply for the fast British passport, we would have had to cancel our trip home. And yet the website is STILL saying its business as usual, nothing to see here!

What an absolute sham.

Unfortunately the passport office has been over run by British people suddenly wanting passports in the aftermath of Brexit. They're doing the best they can.

Imohsotired · 06/07/2022 09:58

@Itsonlyabiscuit mine was scheduled for mid June (14th I think), it’s arrived today. Do you know if they rang to confirm the identity? Mine got dispatched shortly after that step.

Is it Ireland you are travelling to? Hope the U.K. passport is in your hand soon

Itsonlyabiscuit · 06/07/2022 11:29

@Doorsdoyle definitely not disputing the fact they have a lot of work to do. My own children were born abroad and I fully respect anyone's right to obtain the citizenship they are entitled to.

My issue is how the delays are being downplayed on the passport website, saying that current turnaround times are 40 working days. Myself along with many others haven't found that to be the case. The tracking utility is also saying that my application has been verified and it hasnt been: nobody has contacted our countersignatory. It's the mixed messaging and lack of transparency that has annoyed me.

Hubby got a message to say the British passport is on its way, phew! Yes we are flying to Ireland @Imohsotired. My brother hasn't met my baby yet and am just so excited to get some cool, fresh air! Am delighted yours arrived. What a relief!

Hello sorry I know this is an old thread but was wondering if someone here could help me please? I am in the UK and have applied for my first adult Irish passport. My question is for anyone who has had to send their documents from England to the po box in Dublin. How did u send your birth certificates over? All the couriers I have looked at will not send to a po box address so was hoping someone who had done it could advise me please. Thank you

Ps I have read upthread someone mention dhl but when I look at their website they say they won't deliver to a po box which is the address in Dublin that I need to send my supporting documents. Thank you
