Early flight from Dublin Airport - hotels so expensive!

Hi!
We’re in Belfast and are flying out of Dublin airport on a 10 am flight. In the beforetimes when we flew long haul out of Dublin we stayed in a hotel the night before.
Now it looks like it 300+ euro for a single night in a Premier inn?
To make it worse I have teens so would likely need 2 twin rooms.
Has anyone got a cunning solution?

Sorry no solution but just to say I am ashamed at the price gouging going on - hotels, car rental, AirBnbs.

I’ve no cunning plan but I think I’d drive from Belfast early instead of staying over.

Dublin airport has got so expensive again. I paid €700 to rent a car for 4.5 days and €25 for a hot sandwich and chips.

I would suggest using one of the ungodly hour bus services that goes straight to the airport. There is very little accommodation in Dublin at the best of times and there is a large amount under demand by block bookings for homeless, refugees and a number of conferences that are back taking place.

WhiteCatmas · 29/05/2022 08:51

Good grief! Ungodly hour bus service it is then.
Thanks you!

Have you seen the twitter feed regarding dublin airport chaos? Even if you could get a hotel you will barely be in the bed!! Bus is the best way

Tangoes · 30/05/2022 11:52

I agree with the other posters use public transport.
We stayed in the Clayton in April and it was €135 for the room booked late last year.It was two adults and a child but the room was big with two double beds.I'm sure the price has doubled now.I was shocked at the prices in Ireland.

titchy · 30/05/2022 12:02

It's what a 2 hour drive? You leave at 6am - that's normal surely for holiday flights? We live 20 mins from an airport and often have had to get up at 4am to get the first flight out.

magicstar1 · 30/05/2022 12:04

For the past few mornings there has been a 3 - 5 hour queue at the airport for Terminal 1 departures. You'd be better off just coming down as early as you can in case of a queue. You wouldn't get much use out of a bed anyway.

I have similar problem. The parking in short stay is extortionate. 330E for 2 weeks. Unfortunately we would need 2 taxis or a minibus at 500 euro and not close to coach pick up points.

DonnaHadDee · 30/05/2022 22:14

I live in Northern Ireland, but have to spend a few days a month in Dublin for work, mostly a remote worker so I have to arrange and pay for travel and accommodation myself as you’d expect. Prices have gone crazy since April time. While I can afford it no problem, I’m recently preferring to do a much longer drive rather the pay the asking price when it seems such a rip off.

I agree parking is crazy at Dublin Airport. Seems quick park has ceased with the loss of 6000 spaces.we live 50 mins from the airport. Out if interest i looked at airport hottels as if we stay in one we can leave the car there.omg upwards of 400 euro for a thursday night in july before we fly out. No better
The cost is just shocking. So hard to afford goin away and after 2 yrs of going no where !!

What a mess Dublin Airport is at the moment !!!
I'd hate to be flying out at the weekend. Hopefully the DAA will get their act together by then.

This. I'd just set off at 4/5 am to allow time for traffic/parking etc.

We travel a similar distance to Manchester airport and just set off whatever time is necessary, usually 2-4 am for us and catch up on sleep on the plane.

Since I dithered about booking parking 2 days ago the price has gone up another 20Euro and T1 multistorey isn't available for our dates. Have now booked.
I did find Maldron and parking for more or less the same price with NI Electric Perks code for Hotels.com but flight times don't really necessitate an overnight stay.
I seriously considered one of the valet parking operators but it seemed a lot of hassle to meet them outside the terminal and at the other end

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 01/06/2022 11:30

I've not done Valet at Dublin airport, but at Gatwick it's generally no hassle (had trouble once when there were road works and the driving bringing the car back got stuck in them) - in fact it's better with little kids because you just get out of the car and leave it when you arrive, then when you hit baggage reclaim at the other end you give them a bell and they're waiting there to pick you up by the time you get curbside.

WhiteCatmas · 01/06/2022 11:35

To clarify, for all the people saying ‘oh it’s just a 2 hour drive’ a few years ago we did just that. Ended up on a bus in the middle of a horrible storm and the windshield wipers stopped working on the bus. Nearly got trapped. So I preferred the option of knowing we were 20 minutes walk away from the airport as opposed to stuck on the motorway in the middle of nowhere.

If the teens are old enough pub, club, bus, airport😀

With the delays expected again this weekend, as secondary schools finishing, I would bus in very early in the morning and expect delays again going to bag drop and getting in through security. And plan to sleep on the plane. And have rain gear in case there are long q's outside.
