We're not putting the heat on in the evening.

romdowa · 08/04/2022 09:26

Theres nothing we can cut back. Unless we stop eating

Due to a few different changes in circumstances we aren't as impacted by the increase in cost of living as many other people have been.
It's a first for us to be relatively ok for making ends meet and still saving and I'm very thankful.
I swing between feeling I should cut back on our weekly takeaway/meal out and non essential buying to thinking that if everyone does this who doesn't need to it'll be detrimental to the economy🤷‍♀️

What’s the line though @ReallyIrish

I’m back and forth to a town in Ireland and I get that we need to support local but the prices! And yet I can see why they are the way they are and don’t want sole traders/small businesses being priced out.

Just think the whole country has gone up so much in twenty years (which is a short period in many ways).

We stopped putting the heating on. Nothing else I can cut back on unless we starve ourselves. So sick of our government giving themselves large pay rises and 33 or them headed off for St. Patrick's Day. They do not realize what it is like on a normal wage. Dozy Eamon needs to go. Leo the Leak needs to be in jail and Mehole needs to quit talking utter bollocks.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much Stormont can do overall; large chunks of our budget have already been taken from the block grant to cover Bedroom Tax mitigations, and every NI government department's budget has been gutted in 2022 to shift more money to HSCNI.

The real issues, such as lowering fuel duty and imposing windfall taxes on energy companies, are not devolved, and Richi Rishi is too busy imposing ideological austerity and increasing tax burdens. In comparison, RoI managed to reduce fuel duty by 17p per litre, whereas Richi simply stated, "the best I can do is 5p." Bonus points for my tax increasing while inflation is at 8%.

The only thing I believe you can do in Northern Ireland is vote for someone other than the DUP in Westminster elections, who I'm sure would gladly enter into another confidence and supply agreement with the Tories.
Here is a comparison guide about cost of living in Ireland.

I have just cleaned the freezer and know exactly whats in it .im goin to meal plan.we are very lucky to be able to save and have the odd meal out etc But i think its important to start cutting back to weather rate hikes going forward. Did aldi and lidl yrsterday and will bulk buy meat next week as will eat this weeks freezer .i hope it helps. Have no spend days too and save in the vaults on revolut for things like christmas. Shop on the north a bit as DH works up there from time to time( know it doesnt help ROI tho) Things are definately increasing.prices different for milk in 2 super valus locally . Dont know whats that about. So hard to live in Ireland. Taxed at every turn.i minimise my diesel top up too and when im out im out . Ill do shopping of bringing DD swimming that kind of thing !! Any one else any other ideas ??

Too right eamon needs to go but is Dublin based so might be re-elected. Leo only waiting for plum eu job. Its a joke the wastage of public money it really is. People suffering in D provision for years and years and awaiting ppsn for months. Do they want people to work or not !! Dublin airport is a disgrace. Peoples hard earned savings for a holiday once a year and missing flights . The stress i can only imagine terrible carry on.no accountability at all.put the army in fgs !!

Hoolahulahoop · 04/06/2022 10:36

I am still spending on non essentials but I work extra hours. I shopped at lidl last night and bought a lot of yellow sticker items and also fresh mince on offer. I cooked the mince and added lot of veg and will freeze into portions.
Haven't booked DC into any camps yet as quite expensive but might do a local one.
We don't tend to buy takeaways.

LadyEloise1 · 06/06/2022 08:51

@Radyward I agree with you
"...no accountability...."

StaceysmomandIhavegotitgoinon · 07/06/2022 13:08

My raise from work is essentially covering everything extra so in that regard I am lucky but I had been looking forward to getting the payrise and having a little extra each month. The price of everything is shocking right now - diesel and petrol is insane alone with gas and electricity and my weekly shop feels like daylight robbery.
