Long-time member but haven't posted for years so have nc for this.
Can anyone help me to find information on which candidates in the above election are supportive of women's sex-based rights, including where there is conflict between women's rights vs transgender rights (e. g. prisons, refuges, sports)? I have read all the election leaflets that I have received so far, but they are quite general. I can understand that the candidates don't want to risk negative publicity from sectors that would oppose their views on this.
I will try emailing the candidates but thought that I might get a faster response here. Thank you for any responses.

I'm in a similar position. I'm also living abroad so having to base decisions on what I see in the leaflets and online.

Last time I think I sorted them by mentions of Repeal. I was recommeded Ursula Quill as she's supported by Ivana Bacik, who I have always respected but she's not very experienced, quite young and there's no mention of women's rights in her literature. Maureen Gaffney seems pretty solid and as a clinical psychologist and second wave yes campaigner, you'd hope she would be very much in favour of sex based rights. So far I think she's my #1

The SU I understand are boycotting the Irish Times for being transphobic Hmm so I guess candidates will be careful about putting their heads above the paraphet.

But I don't think there are particularly strong candidates this time around. I've heard Hugo McNeill is expected to get it in any case - have only heard rugby and Goldman Sachs connected with him so far!

Thank you botharna for your thoughts. I agree that Ursula Quill may not yet have enough experience. I have just started Maureen Gaffney's book and am pleased to see her use the words "women" and "mothers", so that is encouraging. I also like that she is an independent candidate.

I like what I see about Tom Clonan and his whistle-blowing on sexual violence in the army, as well as his work on disability issues, though I would prefer to give my no1 to a woman if possible.

I wonder if Hugo MacNeill has any views on women's sport?

I am also considering Paula Roseingrave but don't know too much about her other than what is in her leaflet.

Catherine Stocker is good. Look at her policies.
