Can anyone help with this hymn

This is probably a long shot, but I am desperately trying to find this hymn from my school days and Google is being most unhelpful. The only words I know are " And the waves run softly, and they touch the sand, and I search and reach for Jesus, and the warm golden sunshine of his hands".

I went to school in the west of Ireland in the 80s/90s.

Can anybody help?

I don't recognise it, but I'll have a look in the old hymnal in school when we go back next week.

I’m all over the catholic hymns but I don’t recognise this at all. It must be one of the special Irish ones that never made it to the U.K.!

It sounds like a modern hymn, possibly written for schools, so that might be a useful place to start the search. Or ask an Irish priest.

Thank you both, my sister is getting on to the nuns at our old school as she is involved in the reunion committee.

You could try the website Name that hymn.com.
I thought the lyrics might be for "I listen" which also involves the shore

On reflection I’m sure that it must be an Irish hymn because the words are really reminiscent of blessings like ‘may the road rise to meet you’ etc.

It doesn't ring a bell with me, sorry cantthinkwhatthisis. Good luck with the search!

I know it OP. It featured at every communion and confirmation in my (North West) primary school in the 80s and early 90s. Next verse was ‘you called me Lord and I followed, you called me by my name. And since that sunshine (?) moment, life’s never been the same’.

We always called it ‘And the waves run softly’ - not sure if that was its proper title but internet seems to have no record of it!

Second verse was ‘the oceans breathes your nearness, the wind whispers your voice. In you I love and suffer, in you I can rejoice’.

Thank you so much blogdog. That gives me more to go on Grin
