Would you fly next week when no one will be tested?

Just that really. We are due to take a short break in the canaries next week. No one on the flight will need a test to board as far as I know. All we need is the Covid cert.

There will be masks worn but it's a 4 hour flight.

DH has just been sick (not Covid) and he's still not well.

One of us doesn't think we should go and the other does.

What would you do?
TIA.

Depends on my mental health. I would go.

Feelingoktoday** it's more DH's physical health I'm worried about. He's still not feeling well so I'm worried about him getting covid. I'm not sure how it would affect him.

What does your H say?

The big risk is picking up Covid at the airports, I suppose. Against that, you can spend some time in the sun topping up your vitamin D levels.

What happens if one or more of you tests positive? Does your insurance cover extra costs for both of you if just one of you is unwell?

Can you work from the Canaries if you get stuck there for an extra 10 days?

Personally, I'd be dosing my DH with Sambucol (other vitamins are available) and packing his suitcase (but neither of us need to go near an office). Caveat: we both had mild Covid in the Summer.

DH wants to go.

No one on the plane will be tested before we board. That's 4 hours of being sardined in a plane.

We can stay the extra 10 days if we have to. That's not an issue. DC are coming also.

I'd feel more worried about having to go into an English hospital for the afternoon frankly than a four hour flight. If he thinks his health is up to it, I'd go,the sun and relaxation might do him good.

RuggerHug · 27/12/2021 12:08

What's your insurance say? Personally I wouldn't, especially if you have the option of rescheduling it.

playdead · 27/12/2021 12:28

I'm not really worried about insurance. I'm more worried about him getting covid. Sorry we had a bit of a fright yesterday when he got sick. I really don't mean to drip feed. My heads all over the place. He has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Had to go to hospital yesterday. I'm not sure if that matters or not. I have no experience with high blood pressure. I couldn't go with him to the hospital due to covid rules so I couldn't ask any questions. GP is closed til Wednesday.

Oh I asked about insurance because it might help in persuading him to postpone the holiday until he's better. If you're not losing money and he'll be able to enjoy it more when he's on form it might be worth checking.

playdead · 27/12/2021 16:05

Thanks. I'll look into it.

With the speed omicron is infecting people the tests might be out of date by the time you get on the flight anyway. I took a PCR on 17/12 to travel from the UK to Ireland. Result was negative. Flew on 19/12 and took an antigen test at home before the flight. Also negative. And then took a test in Ireland on 20/12 and it came up positive. So I could have well infected lots of people on the flight despite doing all the right things.

It’s been a very mild dose but obviously getting it abroad and having to isolate would ruin your holiday.

Fly with FFP2 masks - they give you protection. I used on my last 6hr flight - didnt get sick and i felt safer.

The air on a plane is actually very clean. It's filtered regularly. I've flown 3 times in December and haven't felt worried. The airport is where you might pick it up. It's difficult to social distance while queuing etc.
Even with that I suggest you go on your holiday and have fun.
