Studying Primary teaching in London

Just that. Does anyone know how it works? Not being insulting but is it easier to study in UK than get into the colleges in Ireland? Do you have to pay for it? How does the Irish work?? It is a shorter course? I have tried looking into the St Mary's one in London but kind of confusing. My DN really wants to study this but worries about the high points in Irish colleges
Any advice appreciated

Do they want to work in Ireland after? It might be easier to train in Ireland to get the Irish. Training in the UK is expensive

I did the GTP in secondary in London in the naughties. That was a salaried role with training on the side.

OP short answer
Yes she could train on a B.Ed in the U.K. and come home to teach here but she would need to do an Irish exam before she could become permanent.
U.K. fees are 9k per year sterling + cost of living on top.
There are cheaper ways to train!
-Straight B.Ed here

  • Degree in any subject (?) + conversion course at teacher training college
  • degree plus conversion at Hibernia College (private)
(I’m assuming she doesn’t already have a degree so couldn’t do something like a GTP in the U.K. Does the TC recognise them outside of England?)

Mainland Europe also a cheaper option now - lots of degrees offered in English at including Primary teaching

Cliffs of Mhair GTP is recognised as it leads to QTS but you have to do an exam in the history of Irish education when you come back to Ireland. It's online now but I had to do it in Maynooth. I imagine primary teachers then also have to do training or exams in Irish.

The fees are not the same in all parts of the uk. They are around 4K per year in Northern Ireland. Your dn could do a BEd or an upgrad then top up with a pgce.

Good point, had forgotten about the fees in theNorth being lower than England. I’m not sure what fees are for Scottish unis coming from Ireland. It used to be free until recently but I think that’s gone now
