Flying from Ireland to uk on Wednesday for a week so after Boris's announcement this evening does that mean myself and my dd now have to pay to get a pcr in the uk within two days of arrival and stay in until we get the results?? On returning to Ireland will I need to do the same?
Totally up in the air now don't know what to do I was going over to see parents with Xmas presents and now don't know whether they go or not?
I have no idea if the pcr in uk is required if your coming from Ireland?
Anyone understand what the heck's going on please enlighten me!

Had a peek at the uk.gov website and it doesn’t apply to Ireland

But that last ypdate was the 25th November they haven't published the updates from today yet

cloudtree · 27/11/2021 21:33

It applies to all entries into the Uk

Alieninmybody · 27/11/2021 21:34

Is that updated today @MegCleary , I had thought that was the previous status?

MegCleary · 27/11/2021 21:49

Apologies updated 25/11 but I’d be surprised with the border if they change the advice.

Travel expert on Instagram has posted this about Ireland. I’m watching out for this too and just praying my sons dad can get across to visit him.

Scandalous that to get back into Ireland now it's going to cost me 260 pounds with a pcr for myself and dd, this is what a pcr costs in the area where I'm staying absolutely scandalous what's the point of a vaccine covid certificate

Have I missed something ?

It would appear that the common travel area is holding, so where did the £260 for tests come from ?

Genuine question.

Classica · 30/11/2021 16:00

The announcement that the Irish govt made today; that from Friday, arrivals into Ireland have to take a lab-conducted antigen test (vaccinated people) or a PCR test (unvaccinated people or previously infected with Covid) before arrival. No exception for the Common Travel Area.

if you're vaxxed you only need the cheaper antigen test rather than the PCR.
650above · 30/11/2021 16:06

The common travel agreement doesn't have to go both ways for this - while the UK might have no restrictions, the Irish goverment has chosen to add them - but you can travel in and out of NI without testing. The price of PCRs in the UK is shocking though!

Classica · 30/11/2021 16:08

Price of PCRs is shocking in the UK. But at least they distribute free later flow tests. I was reading a twitter thread about the price of antigen tests in Ireland. A fiver each?!

Does anyone have a link, I can't find anything.

FinallyFluid · 30/11/2021 16:10

Excuse my manners, please and thank you.

Has to be a professionally administered antigen, so the free ones wouldn't work

Yeah a lab one. But the free ones I use for testing for work etc. are free in the UK but not in Ireland.

Oh Joy Confused

MegCleary · 30/11/2021 18:13

Is there an age for pcr? Before under 12 didn’t need??

Classica · 30/11/2021 19:16

yeah, still only applies to the the age 12 and overs

Carriemac · 30/11/2021 23:02

You can book a ‘professional’ antigen test in boots in the UK for £30 within 48 hours of travelling back to Ireland from uk .

kissmelittleass · 30/11/2021 23:33

@Carriemac can I ? That's brilliant if I can I'll check it out thanks, I thought I had to have the pcr but the professional antigen lab test would be better for me as it's cheaper, I'm double vaccinated as is dd(12) plus I've recently had the booster.
