Teen 2nd jab in Ireland?

Wakemeuuuup · 21/10/2021 20:58

I have 2 teens who have had 1 jab in England (all they're allowed 🙄).

They both have Irish passports. Does anyone know if we'd be able to get them a 2nd jab if we over to Irelat Christmas? We're all desperate for them to have it.

I don't think so. You need a PPS number to register for the vaccine.

EarringsandLipstick · 21/10/2021 21:03

Although, it does say, if you don't have one, you can ring the HSE helpline.

However, I still think it will be for those ordinarily resident in Ireland.

Pucarbuile · 21/10/2021 21:03

I don't know, but I'd be surprised I they can. I think I had to give my pps number to get mine and just had to give the dcs' pps numbers for the regular flu shot.

ChimneyPot · 21/10/2021 21:07

Phone the helpline and ask. The lack of a PPS number should not stop someone e getting vaccinated.
They vaccinate illegal immigrants with no papers so Irish citizens without PPS numbers should be fine.
Getting a cert to show they are fully vaccinated may be more difficult. I do know some one who had first jab in London, second in Dublin and got a cert though.

eggandonion · 21/10/2021 21:07

I think adults might have been able to get jabs without pps numbers at pop up centres, to encourage anyone who is in Ireland without the correct visa to come forward.
But i don't think that was the case with teens. I have a kid studying in the UK who had Janssen vaccine here. There's very little mention of how protective it is.

Wakemeuuuup · 21/10/2021 21:14

Thanks all, I doubted I'd be able to but it's always worth a chance

You could try and ask in a local chemist if they are still doing them at Christmas, I'm not sure what the story is with them now it was August when my teen got vaccinated. You do generally need a pps number but you could try and bluff it at a walk in centre maybe, oh we just moved over here blah, blah.

You can't get the vaccine in chemists any longer.

What do you mean by this? What illegal immigrants? 🧐

eggandonion · 22/10/2021 14:08

I think some dodgy language schools might have led to an influx of low paid workers, who are paid cash in hand? There are plenty of illegal Irish workers in the states, so it's a definite possibility!
Op, nearer the time perhaps call a gp near where you are staying and see what the options are. You would need to know which jab was used first time, and if its ok to use a different type.

They're not illegal immigrants. They may be in breach of their visa conditions, but they're in the country lawfully.

You come across as incredibly ignorant.

I know who a couple of people who got their cert after one dose here but they got J&J as the second one, and Pfizer in England as their first one. The cert showed them as fully vaccinated because they had a single dose of J&J. I'd be surprised if you could get a cert after only a single dose of pfizer/moderna/AZ from the HSE. They wouldn't be able to access the NHS system to verify the first dose.

As others have said, adults can definitely get it without a PPS number. I would be surprised though if a child could. I'd suggest calling.

3luckystars · 22/10/2021 14:28

Sorry for my stupidity here but why are they only allowed one in England?

Mynameismargot · 22/10/2021 15:14

It must vary by area because I just walked past my local chemist at lunch and they had a sign out front saying that they had a vaccination clinic today.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 22/10/2021 15:29

Looks like you need a proof of address if you don't have a pps number www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/get-the-vaccine/going-to-a-walk-in-vaccination-clinic/. Two of the potential proofs are "bill or letter from a hotel or Airbnb" and "letter from the owner of the property to confirm you live there - this can be your parent".

Assuming you or their df is Irish, you could get a relative to write a letter saying you are staying with them. According to that website, they are also now doing second doses if you had your first dose elsewhere.

eggandonion · 22/10/2021 16:00

Im not really ignorant... some people come in on a fixed term visa but remain in the black economy. Others are trafficked.
Just as some Irish people entered the states on tourist or student visas and stayed on.
I would prefer people who live and work in a country to have access to whatever welfare and security is available to them, sickness benefit and health care included.

eggandonion · 22/10/2021 16:02

Our local pharmacy is holding flu vaccine clinics now. So that may be the vaccine clinic.

The lady I know entered Ireland without a visa. She came through NI. She worked here illegally for a number of years. She did not seek asylum. I am not sure if there is another phrase to describe her status in Ireland. She did however get vaccinated here.
Pucarbuile · 29/10/2021 21:52

Op, you might be in luck. I came across this today www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/get-the-vaccine/going-to-a-walk-in-vaccination-clinic/

Wakemeuuuup · 30/10/2021 11:45

Thanks @Pucarbuile
That's definitely worth looking into

Just seen this thread, I was able to get my teen vaccinated in walk in center last week. we had to fill in a form when we arrived and they said that we would be registered for the EU Covid passport. We will get a text in three weeks to come back to walk in center. They said they will vaccinate anyone who wants and needs it. When I rang up they just said to use the address of a hotel or B&B.

Frazzled2207 · 20/11/2021 20:34

I don’t know anything about the situation in Ireland
However it is almost certain that the uk will allow 2nd vaccines for teens in the new year- they have already agreed for the 16-18yo group
If you do get a vaccine in Ireland then it probably wouldn’t be advisable to get a third back in the UK. Either way it will mess up their vaccine status which could become an issue for under 18s next year
Basically if you have had all your vaccines in the same country it’s a nightmare
