Grin Seems to be the response to any hint of a shortage.

No funny, 50 workers had to be evacuated. They’ve all lost their jobs.

Purplewithred · 27/09/2021 23:08

😱

What is Glenisk yoghurt?

Ichangemynameagain · 27/09/2021 23:09

I've never heard of Glenisk yogurt until this post. Is it nice?

If the Lleath Y Llan went up in smoke, I might consider it.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/09/2021 23:11

I'm glad everyone was safe, and I hope that they all either find other jobs or that the facility finds new premises and they get their jobs back.

Purplewithred it's an Irish brand of yoghurt, some people love the taste of it, it's quite sharp. I prefer a milder yoghurt like Killowen or Velvet Cloud (Velvet Cloud is especially good for me as it's sheep's milk so even less lactose than cows' milk).

Glenisk is an Irish brand of yogurt, and yes it's nice.

The factory caught fire and burned down, with everything destroyed. Fortunately nobody was hurt.

It's not funny.

Theunamedcat · 27/09/2021 23:12

I might consider it I have been known to demand Welsh cheese from my child at a Welsh uni when lockdown prevented me from getting there to buy my own

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2021 23:13

Ah, cross posted with you, OP.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/09/2021 23:16

Irish people can be very particular about their dairy products. I remember when there was no Kerrygold in Dunnes for a few weeks (I still don't know why) but I absolutely refused to buy anything else and was willing to go without butter if I had to. DH thought I was over-reacting.

I was very sorry to hear this. I really like their produce. I hope they will get back up and running soon.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/09/2021 09:55

Sounds lovely.

I might just panic buy if supplies of Loseley became unavailable Grin

LadyEloise1 · 28/09/2021 10:43

I feel very sorry for all those working there.
Their livelihoods are temporarily gone.
It will impact hugely too on those organic farmers and their families who supply the factory.
Organic farming is tough enough without an outlet for your product disappearing.

I love, love, love Glenisk Dark Cherry yogurt. It and Rachel's Organic Coconut yogurt are food of the gods I tell ya. Smile

Rachel's has gone from the shelves locally - probably due to Brexit issues Sad

RuggerHug · 28/09/2021 12:14

They're one of the very few foods my autistic child eats so I'll be getting a few more. I normally am stocked up as much as I can but sods law we've all been sick and haven't been to the shops so run downSad. Relieved they got everyone out OK and hope the company bounces back as soon as they can.

Radyward · 28/09/2021 21:26

Its a family owned company. Local to Tullamore. I like some not all of their produce but i loved that it was a company from small beginnings 25 yrs ago. Im so sad. The poor workers and owners. Main thing is no one hurt BUT its completely devastating. Its so hard to get space in supermarket fridges - its hard won and will theirs be lost due to now unable to supply the big guns of Dunnes / Tesco and Supervalu. Its terrible for all concerned. Id say hundreds of families affected both directly and indirectly. I will support them when back up and running ten fold
So tough

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/09/2021 22:41

Apparently they've been getting offers from other yoghurt manufacturers to use their facilities, which is very sweet. www.rte.ie/news/leinster/2021/0928/1249377-glenisk-factory/

They are a quality company. They'll be back and I think like kerrygold they have a place in our hearts

A good PR/comms is essential now and keep the brand going

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2021 13:21

I feel so sorry for them. They are such a good company to deal with if there's any quality issues.

Mamette · 29/09/2021 13:26

We will be planting the free seeds they supplied in the “frube” type yogurts in their honour, in the spirit of regrowth. Hopefully their regrowth is more successful than DS2’s gardening efforts to date.

Mamette · 29/09/2021 13:29

Go-yos is what they are called.

WheresYourSnickers · 29/09/2021 14:13

Such a pity, the poor factory workers & owners. Great that no one was hurt.
I love their brand and hope they get back on their feet soon.

SuddenArborealStop · 30/09/2021 08:32

My kids live on their yoghurt, any suggestions for replacements I liked that they weren't too sweet I don't want to switch to fromage fraise which seems to be the alternative

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/09/2021 10:34

I don't know any that are the same as Glenisk SuddenArborealStop. I bought some Glenilen the other day and they were sweeter than Glenisk. I do like Killowen, but it's much milder in taste than Glenisk. Dunnes do an own brand one which is called something like West Cork natural yoghurt that you could add your own fruit or a spoonful of jam, it's really creamy and nice. I often buy Velvet Cloud and add a spoon of gooseberry jam because I love gooseberry yoghurt and nobody makes it. However Velvet Cloud does taste different (I think nicer) because it's sheep's milk and it's pretty expensive so a bit of a treat to me rather than a filler for hungry children.

Reminds me of when the Branston Pickle factory burned down about ten years ago. It was just before Christmas and there was a shortage. Stuff of nightmares!

CharityDingle · 06/10/2021 19:33

Love Glenisk yoghurts. I'm so glad that nobody was hurt in the fire. A horrible calamity for the business but great to see that they got loads of offers of help, both from ordinary people and from rival companies. They sound like a really decent business. And I see they have managed to get some production lines going since the fire.

Very sad that this happened, I hope they can recover. I eat their natural protein yogurt most day, have one large tub left. Not sure what I’ll eat for breakfast instead of it.
