We are heading to Cork City for mid term break and I was wondering if anyone would recommend any hidden gems ie. restaurants, cafes etc... I've actually never been to Cork City before and we're really looking forward to it.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Cork! Look up Izz Café on George's Quay. It's run by a Palestinian couple. Lovely people and their food is gorgeous. There is Casanova Gelato next door to them.
Café Marius in the English Market is also lovely. It's run by a Frenchman. There isn't too much seating there, however, just two or three tables. Very nice food too, sandwiches, rolls, cakes, especially good pastries drools.

Yes yes yes for Gelato and Izz :)

Places I like:

Vegetarian restaurants: iyesrs, cafe paradiso, quay co-op

Amazing Japanese takeaway: Miyazaki

Pub: Franciscan Well (local beers)

Coffee: Filter, The Bookshelf

Second Franciscan Well. Great spot. Plenty of room too. The Corn Store and Bodega both on Coal Quay lovely food. Not too pricey. Tony's Bistro, brilliant old style caff on North Main Street. An Bodhrán. Pub on Oliver Plunkett St. Fab juke box!

My personal happy place is a cup of coffee (they refill) and a slice of lemon tart upstairs in the English Market at the Farm Gate cafe. You can sit looking down on the market and it's great to watch the world go by.
The Mutton Lane pub is cool with a big mural of the city and its landmarks and characters on the wall outside.
Cork is great Grin , but all Corkonians will tell you that.

For Brunch it has to be #51 on the Cold Quay.
For cocktails Cask.

Liberty Grill for Brunch. It’s so good - make sure you get the mushrooms. The eggs benedict are divine!

You’ll probably have to book!

The Good Day Deli at the Nano Nagle Centre is on Douglas St lovely for lunch or brunch, especially on a nice day -- they may have started serving indoors again, but most of the tables are in gazebos in the lovely garden. Paradiso is world-beating vegetarian small plates. Agree that the Farm Gate in the English Market is a lovely place to sit and watch from. In terms of pubs, Tom Barry's on Barrack St for pizza and a pint (and trad sessions).
