I’ve just registered DS who is 12yrs for his Covid jab on the HSE vaccine portal, and wondering if anyone else is planning to get their children vaccinated?

I know quite a few of my primary class have registered too. More probably will as they come of age.

Is he entitled to have it due to some health condition? I don't think it's available to all children from the age of 12, is it?

Meredusoleil · 12/08/2021 12:06

Oh sorry. Just realised you are probably not in England 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would but mine are all too young.

I registered my 12 year old last night. He’s been given an appointment for Saturday! Can’t believe it was so quick. A number of his class have registered as well, although most don’t turn 12 until next year so not eligible. Am hopeful he might have two doses before they go back to school.

Yes, I’ve just had a text for Sunday. I wasn’t expecting it to be that quick.

I registered my 14yr old and have an appointment for Saturday, can't believe how fast it is! He's delighted to be getting it.

Elverybaby · 13/08/2021 23:59

Yes, registered the evening it opened but no appointment yet.

Killahangilion · 16/08/2021 07:39

Update: vaccine appointment went well. Wasn’t too busy and bottles of water and a lollipop were given out to each child. Grin

@Elverybaby

I overheard a couple of the nurses chatting to a parent in the recovery room saying that the clinics in Dublin are struggling to get enough trained staff to cope with the demand and that staff working there, were regularly doing 12 hour shifts.

Yes mine qualify in Scotland because of a vulnerable family member and have their first appointment on Saturday. They are happy and so am I.

My 12 year old is due the vaccine this week but I'm seriously considering not letting her have it because of a local recent death after receiving the vaccine in a young person.
My eldest ds received the Oxford vaccine months ago and developed chest pain hours after the vaccine that continued for near two months (he never told me) our doctor put him on anti inflammatory medication which helped and we got a private appointment with a cardiologist who did a echo scan and thank god everything looked ok but in the cardiologist opinion he developed myocarditis because of the vaccine.
See my dilemma I'm really worried as 12 year old has couple of underlying conditions but not sure about vaccine?

Is this in Ireland? I have heard of no substantiated case of anyone dying after taking the vaccine here. Heard lots of 'duirt bean liom go duirt bean lei' stuff though and some quite disgraceful and completely untrue stories on social media being shared and worse, blaming family members for people's deaths.

My 12yo had his on Sunday. Delighted to have it and no after effects at all. Everything in life has risks but the balance here is in favour of having the vaccine. There were lots of people at the vaccine centre with their teenagers.

My DD had her vaccine last week. She has a phobia of needles so they fast tracked us stright through to the cubicle and the nurse was very patient.
DD has a heart condition so the doctor came in to speak to me regarding some small risks. She said that due to her heart condition it was very important to get the vaccine as getting covid would be much worse than the potential small risks of the vaccine.
I'm very pro vaccines but it was still very reassuring.
DD was fine afterwards apart from a sore arm
