Ferry and Foot Passengers

Hi All, I'm just sorting out the ferry for our trip in September but the prices have risen astronomically in a year - over 50% difference. Adult passengers in the car are around £70 but foot passengers are £35. No problem being a foot passenger getting on board but would like to join the car on leaving. Does anyone know if you're checked when the boat has docked and the cars are going off?

I don't recall that ever happening? A sleepy Garda might glance at your passport in Rosslare or Dublin agus sin sin. Getting on the boat as a foot passenger was a bit of a rigmarole last time I did it. Some shuttle bus yoke. Best check that out !

Did the foot passenger trip for years and years, getting the train up from London. To get on the boat as a foot passenger you would go into the terminal building, and wait there to be called to the shuttle bus which brings you onto the ship. When you are getting off again in ireland, you usually congregate in a certain area and get onto another shuttle bus, which then brings you inside the arrivals terminal. You will go through passport control/ customs/ whatever and then will be free to go outside and make your own way to wherever. Don't remember them ever doing a headcount, so if you wanted to get into the car to drive off the ship, I don't think it would be an issue per se, as the only people watching you physically driving off the ship are the boat crew, but your driving companion could certainly just wait outside the terminal building for you if you did decide to go on the shuttle. Be sure to have all your passenger locator forms, vaccine certs, PCR test results etc, as we were asked for them all.
