Will my DD need a passport to fly from Belfast to Gatwick? I have one, and I have her birth certificate - does she need her own? Flying with Easyjet if that makes a difference. I tried googling but it's not very clear!

There's no legal requirement to have a passport for anyone traveling within the common travel area (ROI and UK) and obviously not for anyone traveling within UK, but some low cost airlines require passports. Easyjet might be one, and Ryanair definitely is. So basically: you need to check easyJet's website about what photo id is acceptable. If you booked with aer Lingus it wouldn't be required, though I'll be honest I've never travelled with a child without a passport: I've flown with my drivers licence but I'm not sure what 'alternative' ID would be acceptable for a three year old.

Also bear in mind that even if you book with an airline that doesn't require a passport, if there's any disruption and you have to rebook it may limit your options if you don't have a passport for her.

Thanks both - I'll see if I can get her one in time!

EasyJet don’t require a passport for under 16s from Belfast/ NI to England/Scotland/Wales. As far as I know the only airline that does is Ryanair.
My son is 9 and had 90+ flights with no passport and I have never been asked for a birth certificate or any proof he was mine. He’s also flown with my mum by herself many times and had no questions

EasyJet only ask for photo ID for persons over 16. Not for kids if accompanied with adult who is showing their Own ID

The ID for the adult doesn’t have to be a passport. Can be driving licence , and I think they also accept translink cards and electoral identity cards

Ahh thanks @Oinkypig and @blubberyboo, that's great to know.

You’ll need to have some form of identification on both domestic and international flights.
Identification needed for domestic flights

Photographic ID is required on all domestic flights.

Children under the age of 16 do not need to show ID on domestic flights (excluding Italy). The adult they are travelling with can vouch for the infant's/child's identity.

Children under 14 on Italian domestic flight must show photographic ID.

Here's a few examples of photographic ID that is accepted:

A valid passport - an expired passport can be used up to a maximum of five years after expiry
Valid photographic EU or Swiss national identity card
Valid photographic driving licence, provisional or full
Valid armed forces identity card
Valid police warrant card/badge

Sorry to resurrect this thread but is it still the case easyJet don’t require passports for under 16s travelling between NI and England? Website says so but don’t want to get caught out at the airport! Anyone travelled this summer? TIA lovelies 😘

Flew on Sunday London to Belfast international, only my passport was required and my two children didn’t need theirs. They are under 12.
