Did anyone watch the programme about her on RTE last night? What a woman! I really liked her approach to her job, to her family and to life (and death) in general. Loved the story of why she became a doctor and then a pathologist.

I've it recorded. She's incredible I think. About as different to me as it's possible to be, I can't imagine how she did the job she did.

I know this is irrelevant to her ability to do the job, but she's incredibly glamorous too

Damn I missed it. Will try and get it on catch up.

She's brilliant, I bought her book Beyond The Tape it's a good read if anyone's interested. Not just about her life, but about Forensic Pathology in general.

Yes I watched it.
She's some woman. A great career role model.
The descriptions of the murders were so disturbing, horrific and sad that I hoped no members of the deceaseds' families or friends stumbled upon the programme inadvertently.

I thought it was so touching that Manuela Riedo's parents gave her such a lovely wee gift.

Does anyone else feel ashamed when a visitor to Ireland is killed or injured on their visit here ?
I know I do - their cases stick in my memory - Manuela,
Yosuke Sasaki killed in Dundalk
Jastine Valdez murdered in

Wicklow
Guido Nasi left paralysed by an

attack in Fairview. His beloved
mother who cared so lovingly
for him died last year.
Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Oh she is just inspirational.
Always respected her and her explanations of such complex work. Must buy her book.

Yes, I suppose. I guess I feel it reflects badly on us, however I know that is a bit ridiculous in reality. If an Irish person is killed abroad, I don't blame the people of that country.

I suppose it's because in general we have a very low murder rate, so it always seems a bit shocking. I think we like to believe that we live in a very safe country (which, when compared to some other places, we do), but bad things still do happen and when it happens to a tourist it is likely to get more press coverage.

MindtheBelleek · 17/05/2021 11:27

Yes, I liked and admired her far more than I expected, given that I saw (possibly on the Late Late a while back?) a TV interview where I didn't take to her at all, and found her rather ghoulish. (I did wonder about whether she and the producers had sought permission from the victims' families, and the ethics of having the last moments of your murdered loved one be just another 'case' in a TV programme, albeit one centred on a dedicated professional.)

And I admired her hair.

Part two is on now.

MindtheBelleek · 17/05/2021 22:29

I don’t think I’d realised some of the Stardust victims hadn’t been identified.

Joolsin · 17/05/2021 22:45

She is so impressive.
