Wicklow town

Hi everyone

Can anyone give me some info on what Wicklow town is like to live in? My DP and I are considering moving a little more south of Dublin and would like to be close to the sea if possible but also close to a town. We currently live in West Dublin with 2 small DC.

We would love to live in South Co Dublin but can't afford it so we're looking at other options.

Thanks a mill!

I like it. Spent time in blainroe for a little while but it's too far out of dublin if you are working in dublin. Lovely if you do not need to work in dublin. The 133 coach is always over booked. And any house near station wont be a bargain. Only 4 trains per day to dublin 😵

Good town though and lots going on for dc, clubs etc, but i would prefer somewhere closer. Maybe kilcoole?

We do both work in Dublin so perhaps that isn't a runner then. Well my DP works in Blackrock so I was thinking he could drive to Greystones and get the Dart and that wouldn't be too bad. No so great for me though as I work in the city centre but I am hoping to only go in a couple of days a week once we are allowed back in the office.

I'll have a look at Kilcoole, thanks for the recommendation.

Any other suggestions greatly welcomed too. I do want somewhere with a bit of life for the kids as they get older so not too small or remote.

Greystones ? I don't know anything about the area. I've visited a few times and think it's a vibrant, buzzy place.
Lots of new houses near Kilcoole.
It depends on your budget really.

SelkieBe · 14/05/2021 07:39

Greystones is a great place, love it, but it is no cheaper than bray or shankill, in fact probably more expensive than bray, maybe same as shankill.

Even though bray closer to dublin, and has more bus routes in to dublin greystones more genteel!. If your h works in blackrock and you are on a budget, (who isnt buying a house!?) kilcoole could work as it's much cheaper than bray/greystones but it's accessible, 84x is a v good bus, i use it, but it is a commuter bus only so doesnt run sat or sun. The normal 84 is less frequent 2 an hour i think. I think there is a shuttle type of bus running between kilcoole and greystones dart. But i dont know the number. I know you are drivers by the sound of it but you are going to need yr kids to be able to get on a bus to greystones/school/work!

SelkieBe · 14/05/2021 07:40

Yes, whats the budget?

TopoTip · 14/05/2021 10:14

Budget is around €400k and need a 3 bed minimum. I think Greystones amd Shankhill are out of our budget sadly. Bray might be okay - I'll have a look.

I'm happy to get the bus or train. Where we we live now is just about manageable by bike so I only drove in when I had to.

Don't rule out Bray, some parts are lovely and the seafront is a great amenity. There's a new town centre plaza under construction with cinemas and there are lots of nice cafes and restaurants.

There's a well established ET (multi denominational) primary school and a new ET secondary as well as the usual catholic primaries and secondaries.

You are 15 mins drive from Enniskerry at weekends, and an hour from Wexford beaches, and the public transport, busses and DART, is very good.

I live in Bray. Not in a Nice part of Bray but i can walk up bray head, along seafront or even walk to greystones, bray v mixed socially like a bigger town. I live in a 80s estate, my neighbours are ok One cuts my grass, they take in parcels, no mn drama 😄, and my house a 3 bed and only worth about 310k so ... it can be done.my house is small though.

When i say "not in a nice part' i just mean not down by the beach, there'snothing wrong with it!
