Anti-EU sentiment

Is anybody else really sad at the anti EU sentiment on here? I'm Irish and a europhile. The vaccine thing is so 'EU trying to get their hands on our jabs', and 'EU bullys again'.

I used to sometimes feel quite foreign on MN, but not in a bad way. I'd see attitudes here, very different to what I'd be used to, but often it would make me take a good look at my own presumptions. Other times I'd read a thread to DH (who lived in the UK for years) - and we'd laugh and say, 'it really is a foreign country'.

So much of the Brexit threads are 'they (EU) will fail soon' with more than a wiff of hope attached. Lots of 'EU bullies'. The vaccine threads just make depressing reading though.

Footnote: I've lived overseas but I'm in Ireland now.

My question - is anybody sad at the antiEU sentiment? Ireland is in the EU!

I’m kind of glad or relieved to see this thread revived. Between the EU bashing and the rampant anti-vaxxer bullshit on the Coronavirus board, I tend to avoid most threads in that topic. MN refuses to tamp down on the anti-vax lies and it’s going to hurt them gravely in the end.

Because they think we are the 'soft underbelly' of the EU due to our shared history and shared land border and can be used to thwart/damage the EU as a whole.

For ardent Brexiteers, leaving the EU was never the end game, bringing down the EU is what they truly desire.

And @ManorMouse yes to all of this above 👏👏👏

The Brexit folks still see Ireland as some kind of a colony of sorts and think Irish folks will just go along with whatever “big older wiser brother” England says. Because Rep. of Ireland isn’t, they couldn’t give sweet fuck all about what’s happening in NI. It’s spiteful retribution for ROI not towing the line.

Disclaimer: I’m not actually Irish or British but this is what it looks like from my “neutral” view. Craicnet folks, please free to correct me if need be since I’m in your space. :)

@JingsMahBucket

When I hear an interview with an Irish star and a presenter from the UK. They always claim them as British, regardless of where they are from

It feels like the UK are still pissed off Ireland wanted to paddle their own canoe.

The bitterness all these years later is still very evident in the subtle comments.

NI is a mess.

I'm not sure how that is going to pan out. Hopefully, the violent outbreaks don't escalate to an all-out civil war again.

I never again want to ring family members to check-in after the news has announced another bomb.

I never again want to be caught up in the absolute panic when an evacuation is announced.

Although with Arlene going, the forerunners are more hard-line than she was. It could get worse before it gets better.

And anyone who believes either side completely and 100% fully decommissioned are delusional.

As Gerry A said “they've not gone away you know”.

Absolutely, Dub.

Though you know you're in the upside-down when you find yourself thinking Gerry Adams is talking sense... 😮

@MarDhea

😲😂.

Never thought of that
