My Daughter just got engages - she wants to get married in Ireland any one have any recent experience?
Rough costs if possible although I do appreciate this is probably difficult as depends on the whole package.
Look forward to any replies

If you can offer more idea of numbers, type of venue (hotel star specifically), budget.

Most Irish wedding receptions are held in a hotel.
Ceremony depends on your preference.

Lookingoutadirtyoldwindow · 03/01/2021 10:16

Hi there - yes the town is well known for hosting weddings there are maybe4/5 4* hotels which offer various packages.
I guess around 150 guests maximum maybe less.
No idea of a budget that is really what I'd like to know so we can plan accordingly
The hotels do not publish costs on their websites

So, weddings in Dublin and it’s surrounding counties tend to be more expensive.
So let me give it a try:
It’s always a range, but it really is down to quality, time of year etc.
4* hotel 60- 90pp
5* hotel 110-130pp
(That only includes a drinks reception and wine with dinner generally. Free bars are more the exception)
Band circa 2000
Photography circa 1800
Videographer circa 1800
Church - 500 if not already a local
Flowers -1500 (but can be budgeted)
Make up - 80-100 pp
Hair same as make up

I had 130 at my wedding in recent years, just under 100pp. Hotel was half the cost, it’s everything else that adds up!

Also, guest rooms can vary in price depending on season. But expect anywhere between 150- 190 per night for a 4 and more for 5.

€25,000 would be a finger in the air if you’re looking for a really nice venue and high quality suppliers.

Lookingoutadirtyoldwindow · 03/01/2021 19:01

Wow that is more than I thought it would be.
Maybe can miss video etc- I've never watched mine in 30 years!!!
Planning on west of Ireland seems to be around 80 euros pp but you are right the extras also clothiers bridesmaids etc
2k for a band!
I'll have to start doing overtime!!!

Mine was in the west. I have a reasonable grip on the venues there and reviews of them if you want to PM me any questions.
Weddings are very expensive...

Lookingoutadirtyoldwindow · 03/01/2021 20:25

I really want to but cannot work out how to!,
The town is westport which we are very familiar with -we like the look of the Knockranny hotel
Are you familiar with it?

bubblesforlife · 03/01/2021 22:29

Westport is beautiful! I have not been to a wedding there but have stayed there. It’s a beautiful hotel, fantastic views.
I know people that have had their weddings there and I’ve heard positive things.
I think prices there would as you say 70-80 pp. These things are always open to negotiation, so ask for everything and barter on items!
Photographers, make up, etc etc all book up very soon in the west, so book those key items when you book venue and ceremony.

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 03/01/2021 23:56

I had my wedding in Knockranny a few years ago - pm if you want any info.

SimplyRadishing · 04/01/2021 00:08

Amazed at these low prices

2016 my cousin married in Spanish point at €200 a head. Imo very average but an open bar.
2017 was outside Dublin in the k club? and was about €350 it was FANCY
2018 my cousin married in dunmore east around €150 per head. This covered wine with food and One drink post meal. then you were on your own.

I know the cost because my gift was as in tradition cash and I had to cover my plate

The good place outside Dublin was worth it.

@Lookingoutadirtyoldwindow Knockranny is gorgeous, a family member had their wedding there some years ago. Food was sublime. But I've gone to weddings in the Castlecourt, Hotel Westport and a few others in the town and they all are very experienced at smoothly running a wedding and as a guest they've all been well catered for.
I'm having my wedding not far from Westport in the summer. It's a much smaller low-key affair but if you wanted more information you could feel free to message me privately.

Lookingoutadirtyoldwindow · 21/01/2021 09:30

Thankyou drinking all the wine , great name by the way!!
Yes it's a shame we can't actually go at the moment but hoping things will improve by next year.
Hope your wedding goes well.
It's so beautiful there ans the Mayo people are so nice . Something lovely to look forward to

Hi OP,

I am from Mayo (left to go to Uni and never returned to live there) and got married there many years ago. A friend got married in Knockranny and it was lovely.

Can I just say though, that Westport, while lovely, is very touristy.

Now, I am not sure how many people are planning on visiting but there is an amazing place (I have no connection with here, see my posting history, I live in Dublin and do not work in the hotel industry) in Ballina called Mount Falcon, which has an old lodge hotel and a lot of self catering lodges on site where guests can stay. The lodges are 5 star (I've stayed there multiple times) and the whole place is fabulous, private lake, long woodland walks, swimming pool and spa. It may be too costly, but if I was taking my family to Ireland for a dream wedding, this would be the type of place I would choose.

Also, weddings in Ireland cost a fortune but I did mine on a budget, as DH and I paid for most of it ourselves, and we did the flowers ourselves (my darling aunt got loads from a florist and herself and her best friend did all the arrangements); we had none of the add ons, and we had a fabulous day. Most modern brides that I know (who married in the past 5 years) are doing more "low key, home-made, tasteful, no add ons" events now, and I think I would go down this route if I were your DD.

I hope you have a fabulous day wherever your DD chooses - and if you let us all know on here, we can place the "Child of Prague" outside our back door for you so that she gets good weather!!!!!

Lookingoutadirtyoldwindow · 21/01/2021 17:38

Thankyou so much for the advice and the offer of the infant of Prague!
Will definitely take you up on that offer.
My parents are from Westport and we go there very often in normal times so we know it well
My daughter has always said that's where she would like to get married so that's why she's looking at those options!!
I'll look at the place you suggested as well!!!!
